What is Occupational Health and Safety Doctorate Program?

Occupational Health and Safety is a highly needed and requested science in our country. Occupational Health and Safety Ph.D. Program has been an inevitable necessity for our country due to the Occupational Health and Safety Law No. 6331 reinforced by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security in 2012, businesses have to employ Occupational Safety Specialists and the low number of qualified personnel. The main goals of our PhD program are to contribute to national and international publications on occupational health and safety issues, to prevent occupational accidents by developing new scientific and technical applications in this field, to produce innovative solutions based on scientific perspectives, to improve occupational health and safety culture and understanding in our country in order to reduce accidents and occupational diseases and train qualified personnel.


It is Aimed to Train Occupational Safety Experts Who Produce Science at International Level

The Occupational Health and Safety Program, which continues its undergraduate and thesis / non-thesis graduate education activities at the Üsküdar University, Department of Occupational Health and Safety; aims to train Occupational Health and Safety professionals who have the knowledge of safety, modeling technological economic and social events and producing solutions. Since Occupational Health and Safety is an interdisciplinary field, it plays an active role in the modeling and interpretation of the problems that arise in engineering, health, economy and service sectors which are necessary for Occupational Safety Specialization.

What are the Benefits of the Occupational Health and Safety Doctorate Program?

The aim of the Occupational Health and Safety PhD Program is to increase the number of Occupational Safety Specialists with a PhD degree. Turkey's increasing the number of academic staff who are trained in the field of Occupational Health and Safety will meet the demand for qualified personnel and will contribute greatly to scientific work in this area due to Occupational Health and Safety Doctorate Program as a complement to the undergraduate and graduate programs at the University. This program will bring the occupational health and safety competences of the students to the international level.


Who Can Apply to Occupational Health and Safety Doctorate Program?

The content of the PhD Program in Occupational Health and Safety is completely different from the other doctoral programs of the Graduate School. The program is designed to specialize in occupational health and safety. Students admitted to the program are required to have completed a master's degree in any discipline. Although there is a variety of disciplines in the undergraduate degree as an interdisciplinary field, the prerequisites are first of all to be preferably a graduate of Occupational Health and Safety Thesis, to have a successful score at science exam and interview, to have completed the program application form electronically, ALES, (SAY-EA-SÖZ score of at least 55, preferably higher than any of the score types, and the score of a minimum or higher score determined by YÖK from the Foreign Language Examination (YDS) and similar national / international reliability tests.


Which Courses Are Taken in Occupational Health and Safety Doctorate Program?

The period of completion of the Doctorate Program for Occupational Health and Safety is eight semesters for students admitted with a master's degree. The PhD program consists of at least eleven courses, a seminar course, proficiency exam, thesis proposal and thesis study for the students with a master's degree. The language of the Occupational Health and Safety PhD Program is Turkish. Students who have not completed a master's degree in Occupational Health and Safety may be required to take scientific preparation courses when necessary.

What are the Work Opportunities for Occupational Health and Safety Doctorate Program Graduates?

Students who successfully complete the Ph.D. Program in Occupational Health and Safety will be awarded Ph.D. degree. Graduates are entitled to receive A Class Occupational Safety Expertise certificate directly. As A Class Occupational Safety Specialist, graduates can work in public and private sectors in companies in all hazard classes.
