Research Focus

In addition to the basic Islamic sciences, the field of Sufism has a wide range of interests in literature philosophy, history to sociology, music to painting, political philosophy to popular culture, science, and art. When we look more closely, it is seen that every study on culture in this geography has to apply to the field of Sufism. Research on Sufism offers new perspectives to those who are interested in sociology and human psychology today.

The Sufi Studies Working Group aims to bring together all disciplinary perspectives to approach the subject from a broad perspective. With this approach, Sufi thought focuses on interdisciplinary studies in which the fields of humanities and social sciences, especially the subjects of history and literature, are processed concerning various disciplines of other fields according to their place.

The basis of interdisciplinary studies is based on bringing together researchers from different disciplines and different disciplines, without customary restrictions and increasing the possibilities of thinking by going beyond known patterns. We have not yet found sufficient accumulation in the literature about the new possibilities that will arise from the meeting of Sufism's concepts and methods with other disciplines. The Institute works to contribute to the formation of a thought infrastructure that concerns society, produces added value, shares social responsibility, and affects sustainable development from the outputs of the texts that constitute the source of these studies, as well as on the subjects of Sufi thought, history, and literature of Islamic civilization. 

The education provided by the Institute within the scope of Sufi Culture and Literature graduate programs has been enriched with the doctoral program in Islamic Civilization, Thought, History, and Literature in a way that will offer deeper and wider opportunities in scientific terms. The doctoral program centers on the relevant profile of people who will support the research and projects of the working group.

This approach is aimed to contribute to the civilization studies originating from Turkey and to the Islamic civilization readings centered on Sufi thought. The fact that Turkish works take the place they deserve in the literature of Islamic studies, that rare examples of Ottoman Sufi thought are introduced through international publications and that works that are the product of the Ottoman commentary tradition are an important part of this effort and the focus of attention.

The working group carries out scientific activities such as educational programs, national/international symposiums, panels, conferences, interviews, and seminars to ensure that not only written publications but also the studies and results obtained to reach the society as its main purpose. These activities are announced to large masses through the media and social media tools of our Institute and University.
