The Journal of ‘Happiness and Well-Being: JHWB was published.
The importance of mental health become more important globally after the pandemic. World Health Organization determined this year’s theme as “Make mental health & well-being for all a global priority.” for the 10th of October World Mental Health Day. Üsküdar University which has been carrying out important studies in the field of Positive Psychology since its establishment, published an “Global Well-Being Manifesto” in 2021 within this context, and now Üsküdar University brought ‘The Journal of ‘Happiness and Well-Being (JHWB)’ in publishing life with the aim to encourage applied and pragmatic critical analysis of matters on happiness and psychological well-being. It is aimed to contribute to academic interaction with the JHWB which is an international scientific journal.
This year, it is aimed to highlight the worldwide importance of mental health on the 10th of October World Mental Health Day. World Health Organization determined this year’s theme as “Make mental health & well-being for all a global priority.”.
One in every 8 people was experiencing a mental health problem before the pandemic
One in approximately every eight people was suffering from a mental health problem globally in 2019 before the pandemic according to data by World Health Organization (WHO). Moreover, WHO stated that current services, skills, and financing are inadequate for mental health and emphasized that they are way below the need in low-income and middle-income countries.
It showed a 25% increase from the first year of the pandemic
WHO stated that the COVID-19 pandemic has deepened the short- term and long-term stress by creating a global crisis for mental health and impacted quite adversely mental health of millions. WHO stated that both anxiety and depressive disorders were increased estimated over 25% during the first year of the pandemic. According to WHO, mental health services were interrupted considerably and lack of treatment on mental health problems is increased.
It is emphasized that mental health services are needed to be strengthened
World Health Organization highlights that increasing social and economical injustice, extended conflicts, violence and emergencies threatening public health affect all the population and threaten the advancement for a better welfare. WHO empathized that as individuals, communities and governments, the value and commitment given to mental health must be deepened and it is needed that mental health services must be enhanced in order to all needs of the mental health must be accessible and affordable for public and met via quality service and support network.
The Journal of Happiness and Well-Being aims to contribute to mental health
The Journal of Happiness and Well-Being (JHWB) was published by Üsküdar University that carries important studies in the field of positive psychology. JHWB aims to encourage applied and pragmatic critical analysis of matters on happiness and psychological well-being.
An international scientific journal
Being an international journal, Happiness and Well-Being (JHWB) is published twice a year as printed and online in March and September. The Journal is open access, double-blind referred, and it publishes in Turkish and English languages.
A contribution to the academic interaction is aimed
The journal which aims to encourage applied and pragmatic critical analysis of matters on happiness and psychological well-being, also aims to contribute to academic interaction with original studies carried out by local and foreign expert academicians and researched from different disciplines within the framework of related fields.
JHWB publishes qualified and qualitative and quantitative research in the field of positive psychology and titles that the journal covers are as follows: search of happiness, benefits of happiness, happiness and well-being, determinants of happiness, psychological strength, forgiveness, psychology of emotions, emotional intelligence, empathy and altruism, love, sexual well-being, marriage and romantic relationships, awareness, meaning and purpose of life, strong qualities of character and environmental resources, human relations and social support, devotion to work, positive psychology in work life, optimism and hope, self-esteem, self-compassion, self-sufficiency, body positivity, psychological needs and motivation, modesty and humbleness, mercy, psychological well-being, social intelligence, thanksgiving (gratitude), post-trauma development, satisfaction with life and life quality.

Üsküdar University published Global Well-Being Manifesto
“Global Well-Being Manifesto” was published by the Üsküdar University Senate in 2021 after the pandemic. University President and President of Supreme Council of Management Prof. Nevzat Tarhan shared the manifesto with public on behalf of the Senate on April 22 World Day and it is emphasized that there is a concern on general loss of hope caused by the pandemic in our country and the world. In the manifesto, it is stated that the need of secure attachment was increased due to lack of social relations and fears of people are increased due to concern for the future and living close to death constantly. It was said that “That’s why we would like to put emphasis on the importance of global wisdom values and considering health, culture and education policies.” Anyone who would like to can sign the manifesto which can be found on the university web site.
