Australian Griffith University Faculty of Humanities visited the Institute for Sufi Studies



Australian Griffith University Faculty of Humanities Faculty Member Dr. Adis Duderija and his students visited Üsküdar University within the scope of the program organized by the Institute for Sufi Studies.

Australian Griffith University Faculty of Humanities Faculty Member Dr. Adis Duderija attended the program designed by the Institute for Sufi Studies at Üsküdar University.

Information about the Institute was provided

The program was initiated by the opening speech delivered by Asst. Prof. Cangüzel Güner Zülfikar. Following the information provided about the establishment of the Institute and the ongoing curriculum, Asst. Prof. Güner Zülfikar gave a lecture on “Endowment Institutions in the Ottoman Empire”.

Prof. Emine Yeniterzi delivered the second presentation of the program, where she spoke about the “Tradition of Storytelling in Sufism” and gave examples from Mawlana's Masnavi.



Evaluations were made on the matter of woman in Islam

After the presentations, the program continued with the questions of the participants. Prof. Reşat Öngören, Prof. Emine Yeniterzi and Asst. Prof. Cangüzel Güner Zülfikar's evaluations were focused on Sufism in Islam, how Sufism is experienced today, Sufi institutions, and woman in Islam.
After the speeches and evaluations, Lecturer Arzu Eylül Yalçınkaya performed Sufi music consisting of the works of Yunus Emre, Aziz Mahmud Hüdayi and Kenan Rifai. The English translations of the hymns were presented to the participants in written form and explanations were made about their mystical content.



Cooperation between universities was discussed

Following the program, which introduced the traditional instruments of Ottoman dervish lodge music, the delegation was served lunch at Üsküdar University. Opportunities for cooperation between universities were discussed during lunch.

The delegation also visited Cemalnur Sargut, President of the Istanbul Branch of the Turkish Women's Cultural Association and one of the Advisors of the Rector of Üsküdar University on Thursday, October 31.

Asst. Prof. Cangüzel Güner Zülfikar represented the Institute at this meeting and initiated the first contact with the delegation from Australia.

The delegation will travel to Sarajevo after completing their visits in Istanbul.
