Evaluating the assassination attempt against Donald Trump, who is the 45th president and presidential candidate of the United States of America, Political Scientist Prof. Havva Kök Arslan stated that "In such a conjuncture where we are on the verge of a global war, the November 2024 elections are a critical process not only for the USA but also for the whole world."

Prof. Havva Kök Arslan stated that "The background of the assassination may be to ensure Trump's withdrawal from the election. However, the failure of the assassination is almost certain to turn the tables and increase Trump's votes."

Üsküdar University, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Head of the Department of Political Science and International Relations (English) Prof. Havva Kök Arslan evaluated the assassination attempt against the 45th president and presidential candidate of the United States of America Donald Trump.

The conjuncture we are in is very sensitive

Reminding that the assassination attempt on Donald Trump took place at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on July 14, Prof. Havva Kök Arslan stated that "Assassination attempts against politicians in the world and in the United States have happened before; however, the conjuncture we are in is quite sensitive. If we go back a little, on May 15, 2024, in Handlová, Slovakia, Juraj Cintula tried to shoot the country's Prime Minister Robert Fico. Two months later, a similar incident took place, this time in America. Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old Pennsylvania resident, assassinated the former president of the United States, who was running for election in the White House."

What Trump and Fico have in common is Ukraine

Comparing the two events, Prof. Havva Kök Arslan made the following remarks:

"What Trump and Fico have in common is that they oppose Ukraine, or rather the continuation of the conflict in the public sphere. Bratislava stopped the supply of weapons to Kyiv after the change of the Cabinet of Ministers, and Fico actively opposes the entry of the Eastern European country into the North Atlantic Alliance. Trump, on the other hand, often says that he is ready to immediately stop the war, and his advisers are preparing the first initiatives that could help end hostilities. However, these people are often portrayed as dangerous politicians in the Western mainstream. Sometimes they are even talked about as a kind of autocrat who can harm Western democracy. However, they are dangerous only for those who advocate the continuation of the Ukrainian crisis, which could turn into an organized conflict between the Russian Federation and NATO."

The deployment of long-range missiles in Germany in 2026...

Stating that the leadership of Russia, China, India or other non-Western countries do not want war, Prof. Havva Kök Arslan said that "During the NATO summit in Washington, which ended on July 11, the USA and Germany issued a joint statement regarding the deployment of missiles with a much longer range than those currently deployed in Europe in Germany in 2026. We are talking about Tomahawk cruise missiles with a range of 6 to 370 km, capable of carrying SM-370 multipurpose, conventional or nuclear warheads with a range of 1250 to 2500 km, as well as hypersonic missiles that are still in the testing phase. It is noteworthy that after the summit, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov had a telephone conversation with his US counterpart Lloyd Austin. Details were not disclosed; however, the statement of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation stated that 'the issue of preventing security threats and reducing the risk of possible escalation was discussed.'"

The election on the brink of a global war...

Arslan stated that "In such a conjuncture where we are on the verge of a global war, the November 2024 elections are a critical process not only for the USA but also for the whole world.”

"The Democrats insist that Biden should withdraw from the nomination; however, no steps in this direction have yet been taken by Biden. Given Biden's health, he's a weak candidate against Trump. If Biden does not withdraw, pushing Trump out of the election process will be in favor of the Democrats. From this point of view, the background of the assassination may be to ensure Trump's withdrawal from the election. However, the failure of the assassination is almost certain to turn the tables and increase Trump's votes."

U.S. election and World War III discourse...

Pointing to the discourses of World War III Prof. Havva Kök Arslan concluded her remarks as follows: "We can predict that the upcoming American elections will also be decisive in how the discourses of World War III will be shaped. In contrast to the harsh foreign policy of Biden, the leader of the Democrats, who is directly supported by the American arms industry, Trump's moderate foreign policy will also affect international relations. In this context, if Biden wins the elections, the rhetoric in global competition may become even tougher. Considering that the assassination attempt increased Trump's chances, we can predict that it will contribute to changing the risk of global war."
