Is Vertigo a disorder?
In the event held by Üsküdar University Vocational School of Healthy Services (VSHS), topic of “Vertigo” was discussed within the scope of University Culture course. Üsküdar University Vocational School of Healthy Services Audiometry Program Instructor Elifnur Taşdemir performed the moderatorship of the event that was held via Zoom.
The topic of “Vertigo” attracted great attention from the students in the event carried out by the VSHS within the scope of University Culture course.
Üsküdar University Vocational School of Healthy Services Audiometry Program Instructor Elifnur Taşdemir who participated in the event held online: “Vertigo can be described as dizziness, the sensation that the environment around you is moving or spinning, the sensation that you are being pulled to a side, eye-focusing problem, the sensation of being in space and so on. Dizziness caused by many reasons leads to decrease quality of person’s life. If dizziness is repetitive and develops suddenly and strongly for a long time, a health institution must be applied to for such cases.” said.
Is Vertigo a disorder?
Pointing out that Vertigo which is known as disorder by the public is an actually a symptom, Taşdemir said: “Vertigo is a situation which patient describes as a sensation of the person or the environment is moving or spinning, and this situation is a movement illusion. That’s why necessary examinations are carried out and obtained symptoms are evaluated after medical history of the patient is listened. Generally, a multidisciplinary approach is shown during this process. This process includes an ENT specialist (otorhinolaryngologist), neurologist, psychiatrist, internal diseases specialist and specialists from other sciences and health personnel such as audiologist, physiotherapist and rehabilitation specialist.”.
“Some types of dizziness can go away without any interventions”
Instructor Elifnur Taşdemir expressed: “Usually, treatment is applied to treat the disorder that causes dizziness. The complaint of dizziness can be eliminated by making blood values to normal levels and treating the infection or with necessary actions if there is BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo).”.
