Üsküdar University has launched three new laboratories to enhance the quality of education for students at the Vocational School of Health Services. In this context, an opening ceremony was held for the Podology Laboratory, Hair Care and Beauty Services Laboratory, and Pathology Laboratory. These modern laboratories aim to make learning more permanent by integrating theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice. Equipped with various training sets, the laboratories provide students with opportunities for practical education. The goal is to train future healthcare professionals and contribute skilled individuals to the sector.

President of Üsküdar University, Psychiatrist Prof. Nevzat Tarhan, Rector of Üsküdar University, Prof. Nazife Güngör, along with faculty members and students, attended the opening ceremony.
During the event, detailed information was shared about the laboratory facilities and training sets available to students.

Tarhan and his delegation first visited the Podology Laboratory.

A scientific approach to foot health

Instructor Muharrem Tosun, providing information about the laboratory, emphasized that these facilities would equip students with better skills in protecting foot health and preventing foot-related diseases.

Led by Dr. Simge Arkan Özdemir, Head of the Podology Program, the Podology Laboratory serves as a crucial practical learning environment for students specializing in foot health.

Dr. Simge Arkan Özdemir: “Our goal is to provide an environment where students can apply their theoretical knowledge in practice”

Sharing insights about the Podology Laboratory, Dr. Simge Arkan Özdemir stated that“Students enrolled in the Podology program benefit from this laboratory. Practical applications are conducted under the supervision of experienced and competent podologists in the field. Our aim is to train qualified healthcare professionals capable of performing medical applications on healthy individuals and carrying out proper foot care based on diagnoses and treatments prescribed by physicians for foot-related issues. In this regard, our goal is to provide an environment where students can apply their theoretical knowledge in practice. We strive to enhance our students' expertise with laboratory equipment equipped with modern technology.”

The Podology Program focuses on recognizing foot-related problems and providing appropriate foot care for individuals as directed by physicians. Various practical applications such as medical foot care, orthonyxia techniques, onychoplasty applications, and bandaging techniques are carried out in the laboratory.Additionally, students receive training on fundamental therapeutic procedures, including the evaluation of foot health issues, nail pathologies, and corns (callus) within the laboratory setting.

Aiming to equip the industry with skilled and innovative individuals

Next, the Hair Care and Beauty Services Laboratory was visited. Under the responsibility of Program Coordinator Instructor Birgül Erbaş, the Hair Care and Beauty Services Laboratory provides a modern educational environment to train professionals equipped with the skills needed in the sector.

Instructor Birgül Erbaş: "They are preparing for the industry in the best possible way"

Highlighting that the training is carried out through hands-on practice with state-of-the-art technology, Instructor Birgül Erbaş said, "We are in our laboratory where practical training takes place. Our students are transforming their theoretical knowledge into practice here, preparing for the industry in the best possible way. We conduct our training using equipment with the latest technology. The HydraFacial device is a cutting-edge system used for deep cleansing and rejuvenation of the skin. The G5 massage device plays a vital role in body care by accelerating blood circulation. Cavitation and radiofrequency devices are used for regional slimming and skin tightening treatments. The lymph drainage device helps to remove edema in the body and supports the circulatory system. Our students have the opportunity to apply hair removal techniques in our laboratory. They also gain professional competence by receiving comprehensive training in professional makeup applications, hair cutting, coloring, styling, and care. With the training provided in our well-equipped laboratory at Üsküdar University, we prepare our students in the best possible way for the industry."

Equipped with the latest technology, the laboratory offers students training in a variety of fields such as hair care, skin care, makeup applications, and hair removal techniques.

Through hands-on practices conducted under the guidance of expert academic staff, students have the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge and lay the foundation for a successful career in the industry.

Processes leading to the diagnosis take place in the laboratory

Later, the Pathology Laboratory was visited. Instructor Eda Yetimoğlu, the laboratory supervisor, emphasized the importance of the laboratory, which is designed to enhance students' professional skills.

Instructor Eda Yetimoğlu: “Our goal is to prepare our students for the field”

Emphasizing their goal of combining theoretical knowledge with practice to better prepare students for the field, Instructor Eda Yetimoğlu stated that “Pathology is a laboratory where all types of organ, tissue, fluid, and swab samples taken from patients are examined. Our aim is to reinforce the theoretical knowledge our pathology technician candidates receive by allowing them to practice in the laboratory, ensuring they are fully prepared for the field. The studies we conduct here cover all the procedures from the moment a sample is sent to the laboratory until it is examined under a microscope. These processes include tissue sectioning, macroscopic examination, embedding, staining, and many other steps. The procedures we perform here are manual, allowing students to identify and correct their mistakes. By integrating theory with hands-on practice, we ensure they are well-prepared for their field upon graduation.”

Students have the opportunity to learn and practice all the steps involved in diagnosing histological and cytological samples taken from the body.

The laboratory includes a macroscopy room, a tissue embedding area, a tissue sectioning section with a microtome, a histological and cytological staining area, and a microscopy room. Students trained in these areas gain valuable laboratory experience, preparing them for their professional careers with full competence.

A strong future with hands-on education…

With the establishment of three new laboratories at Üsküdar University, students are provided with a modern educational environment where they can put their theoretical knowledge into practice and enhance their professional skills.

These laboratories are considered a significant step toward training future healthcare professionals and equipping the industry with well-qualified individuals.

This innovative educational opportunity continues to provide students with a major advantage in their career journeys.
