Üsküdar University Faculty of Dentistry organized the event "Good Approaches to the Patient in Health Services" within the scope of March 20 Oral and Dental Health Day. Üsküdar University Advisor to the Rector, Director of the Graduate School of Social Sciences Prof. Gökben Hızlı Sayar was the guest of the event, which attracted great attention. Pointing out that good approaches are of great importance in health services, Sayar stated that small but meaningful supports improve the patient's mood and facilitate the process.

Faculty academicians and students participated in the event held at Üsküdar University NP Health Campus İbni Sina Auditorium.

Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Ziver Ergün Yücel pointed out that dentists have the responsibility not only to treat but also to protect public health. Yücel stated that "Dentistry is an important profession that has the function of being a first-level physician. Today, our main field of activity is people. We are the first group to notice most diseases and health disorders. In this direction, we have responsibilities such as treating patients, raising awareness and directing them to treatment. Dentistry is a profession that requires cooperation with many medical fields. Oral and dental health is included in the group of the most common chronic diseases in the world and these problems are also related to other systems of the body. Protecting public health is one of the primary responsibilities of dentists."

Mentioning that emotional bonds play an important role in the treatment process, Sayar said; "Good attitudes are of great importance in healthcare. I believe that human emotions should come to the fore in professional life. Over time, our education can destroy our human skills. I often ask my students the following question, 'What should we do when a patient cries? Should we hand them a handkerchief, or should we ignore it?' Communication with people is very important in health services. In addition to technical knowledge, the emotional bonds we establish with patients also play a vital role in our professional life."

Underlining how important empathy and humane approach are in health services, Sayar stated that "Although a healthcare worker is competent in technical knowledge and skills, he should also improve himself in human relations and empathy. It is explained with many examples that small but meaningful supports improve the patient's mood and facilitate the process. It's just like reassuring and reassuring patients in some way when they are in a very stressful situation. You state that people need to take a more humane approach while constantly improving themselves in their professions. It's a very valuable perspective.
