The event "Technological Applications in the Field of Orthotics and Prosthetics (3D Printer)" was held by the Orthopedic Prosthetics and Orthotics program of Üsküdar University’s Vocational School of Health Services (VSHS). The event featured Anıl Özışık, Business Development Specialist at Osteoid, and Gökçe Güven, CTO of Osteoid, as speakers. The benefits and advantages of 3D technology in production were discussed during the event.

The event took place at the Yuşa Amphitheater, Üsküdar University Çarşı Campus.

A New Era in Production with 3D Technology…

The event highlighted the benefits of 3D printing technology in manufacturing processes.

It was emphasized that the elimination of standard molds and foam usage has made material waste reusable and prevented the formation of waste in production. It was also stated that the reduction in production time and workforce requirements, as well as the decrease in energy consumption, provide environmental and economic benefits.

Thanks to the flexibility and design capabilities of 3D printing, complex and ergonomic designs can be easily produced, while custom structures such as orthoses that fit individual measurements can be rapidly developed.

3D Printing Technology Requires Precision

It was mentioned that 3D printing technology, while offering several advantages, also presents certain challenges. These systems, which require precise calibration, may cause defects in the final product due to small deviations in machine settings.

Additionally, it was pointed out that dust and debris can affect the device components, impairing the printer’s accuracy and causing blockages.

Especially since printers used with thermoplastics are sensitive to temperature fluctuations, it was noted that the printing process must be carefully monitored. These technical challenges highlight the need for further development of 3D printing technology.

The event, where all aspects of 3D technology were discussed, ended with the presentation of certificates and a group photo.
