Üsküdar University Head of Digital Technologies and Software Department and founder of attended the 'Wikimedia Summit 2024' event organized by the Wikimedia Foundation. Özdemir, who participated in the event on behalf of the Turkic Languages Users Group, was the only representative from Türkiye to participate in the event. The event brought together volunteer contributors to Wikimedia projects from around the world and their experts. Özdemir shared his views at the summit, where how to develop and maintain open information resources that can be accessed by everyone over the Internet was discussed.

Founder of the Wikimedia Community Turkic Languages User Group and Üsküdar University Head of Digital Technologies and Software Department Hakan Özdemir also attended the event held in Berlin, the capital of Germany.

"It motivated me even more to protect our cultural heritage in the digital environment"

Pointing out that Wikimedia Summit encourages intercultural cooperation and is a useful platform to expand access to information, Üsküdar University Head of Digital Technologies and Software Department Hakan Özdemir stated that “We have had intensive discussions here to contribute more to Wikimedia projects in various languages, including Turkish, and to diversify the content in these languages. This event further motivated me to facilitate access to information and protect our cultural heritage in the digital environment. As Türkiye, as Üsküdar University, we have once again seen the importance of supporting universal access to information by participating in such global events, and we are proud to contribute to this process."

Özdemir, who was the only representative from Türkiye to attend the summit; expressed that "One of the most important items on the agenda of the event was the discussion on the draft charter of the Wikimedia Foundation, called the 'Movement Charter', which sets out the principles and rules of governance. As the only representative from Türkiye to attend this summit, I contributed to making the document richer and more inclusive by presenting my own perspective on this draft. This allowed us to better understand the needs and proposals of communities from different languages and cultures."
