The 65th session of the 1 Topic 1 Guest was held, which is organized Üsküdar University Occupational Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Health Application and Research Center organized (ÜSGÜMER). The guest of the program was Director of Farmasi SEÇ Remzi Yurtseven.

At the online event, Farmasi SEÇ Director Remzi Yurtseven made a presentation titled "OHS Management System Applications in Integrated Facilities".

"We are trying to reduce the risks to an acceptable level"

Pointing out that they are trying to reduce the potential for harm and reduce the risks to an acceptable level, Farmasi SEÇ Manager Remzi Yurtseven stated that "At the workplace where I worked, we had billboards and fire extinguishers. The number of fire extinguishers was not exactly possible at that time. We wanted to increase the number of fire extinguishers a little bit, and we did. We wanted the panel rooms to be better insulated, especially in the large panel rooms, then we installed self-exploding fire extinguishing systems in these rooms. Later, there are automatic extinguishing systems in the panel and in the fuses, and we have developed these systems. We have created IT rooms that can merge. This is an example of Kaizen in continuous improvement. No matter how big your business is, you cannot do it all at once. You must build on it and you must do better all the time. After developing this system, we will develop much better systems. Therefore, there was danger, there was potential for harm. We are trying to reduce the likelihood of that happening, the likelihood of it happening. We are trying to reduce the risks to an acceptable level.”

The most important element of the ICI Improvement System: PDCA System

Yurtseven talked about the PDCA cycle and the establishment of the ICI Management System in this cycle system and Yurtseven stated that "The most important element of the ICI improvement system is the PDCA System. There is a system that we call plan, implement, control, take precautions and it works with this system. When we are going to plan, it should answer the questions of what, how, where, when, and by whom. Especially, the question of who is very important. You can make a very good plan; however, there may not be someone who owns it. In such cases, a good plan needs to be made. Implementation means that the plan becomes feasible. The plan will need to be well executed. We will follow it in the implementation, and we will also call it control. If there are any aspects that are disrupted or prolonged by the time we control, we will try to eliminate them by taking precautions. If it is in place, if the system is progressing very well, then we will continue with the Kaizen continuous improvement system."

"A person cannot develop a system alone"

Yurtseven underlined that when there is a nonconformity in the area, it should be eliminated immediately and expressed that "Of course, I follow up certain issues, I control them, I give warnings; however, this should always be done by the person that is, the field manager. The reason for this is what I wanted to explain before, which is that the field authority works with 10-20 people. Due to their constant work, it is much easier for them to dominate and direct 10 people in that field. Moreover, let’s say the chief of the area looks at the two areas, the person has all of them, one must control it, but if you give the system to the person at the top, one cannot do it alone. Whether it is an occupational safety specialist, an employer, a director or a coordinator, a person alone cannot develop a system. That's why support is needed. When we see nonconformity in the area, we need to fix it immediately. Of course, there are nonconformities that need to be recorded, which are not very important. We are waiting for the solution of this by sharing it in the WhatsApp group and they come to us as a weekly report. Our weekly reports come digitally, and we also print them out. We are sensitive about eliminating nonconformities in our weekly reports within a week, and after converting these reports into monthly ones, we solve them by criticizing them, especially by bringing them to the agenda in the boards. ‘What we did, we planned, we implemented, we checked, and we took precautions.’ These form the basis of Kaizen."

The online event ended after the questions of the participants were answered.
