Faculty members of the midwifery department met with the families of the students. The online meeting received great interest by the families.

Prof. Güler Cimete: "They should not miss clinical applications"

Head of the Midwifery Department Prof. Güler Cimete first informed the students and families about the Midwifery Department.

Cimete made the following remarks: "In the first year, students begin to get to know both the profession and the person through the lessons in the classroom because we will serve people. Naturally, they need to get to know people first. By the time they reach the second year, they will begin to learn the lessons related to their profession. They will begin to learn about internal medicine, surgical diseases, as well as midwifery care for a healthy pregnant woman related to their main profession. That is, they will begin to enter the midwifery profession in the second year. 'How do midwives care for a healthy pregnant woman? What do they do?' both in the classroom and in the laboratory. Next year, they will start going to hospitals for clinical applications. In the second year, they will gain knowledge skills by caring for healthy and problematic pregnancies. When they reach the third year, they will continue to improve their birth knowledge and skills by taking lessons on a healthy birth as a course on basic midwifery, along with some supportive courses, or birth in risky pregnancy for those who are at risk. Just then, they will take a lesson on newborn baby. They will go to hospitals for both maternity practice and children's practice for clinical practice. When they reach the fourth grade, we call them 'Interns', they have gained basic knowledge skills. They need to be able to work a little more independently. They learn more deeply about the extensive information they have learned about both pregnancy and childbirth. The fourth year will be a year in which they are a little more knowledgeable, skilled, experienced and participate in very active learning in clinics. Our expectations from the students are that they attend their theoretical courses, do not miss the laboratories and do not miss the clinical applications."

Asst. Prof. Tuğba Yılmaz Esencan: "I stand by our students in the development of their maternity training skills"

Asst. Prof. Tuğba Yılmaz Esencan talked about the excitement of the students for the maternity course. Esencan stated that "I am in the third-year midwifery maternity class. At the same time, it also offers maternity classes. I stand by our students in the development of their skills on childbirth. Childbirth class is one of the most exciting lessons for midwifery students. Especially for some of our students, they come with the excitement and curiosity of how the birth lesson will be and what happens at birth, starting from the first year, who are looking forward to this lesson, and they are waiting for this lesson. That is why my students and I are moving forward on this path with this excitement."

Asst. Prof. Ayça Demir Yıldırım: "We are trying to improve our students in every sense"

Asst. Prof. Ayça Demir Yıldırım mentioned that students try to improve their hand skills as well as their social and communication skills. Yıldırım stated that "We try to develop our students in every sense, not just technically. We try to improve their manual skills, social and communication skills. I cannot be proud enough of your children because when they graduate, they will all be community health professionals. We are trying to develop this community with the equipment to do their best to improve its health. Each student in the Midwifery Department of Üsküdar University is also a women's rights defender. Midwives have played a huge role during the pandemic; therefore, your children will be the ones working in the field in terms of public health in these situations."

Asst. Prof. Günay Arslan: "I believe that they will be very good colleagues in the future"

Asst. Prof. Günay Arslan shared her thoughts with the students. Arslan said that "I believe that if our students consider what Professor Güler said, they will be very good colleagues in the future. They are studying a very good department at an excellent university. They are very lucky in this aspect. All of you are very valuable to us."

Asst. Prof. Arzu Akdemir: “Hospitals present thanks to us”

Asst. Prof. Arzu Akdemir talked about the students of the midwifery department. Akdemir expressed that "Our fourth-year students go to clinical practice three days a week, and I accompany them in hospitals like our other professors in those clinical practices. Our fourth-year students will be our colleagues in a few months. It is evident from the first year that they will collect the fruits of both theoretical and practical courses. In clinical practice, we see that they eat the fruit they collected. Especially as a university, we do internships in different hospitals. We are thanked by the hospitals, so they are all very precious."

The meeting ended after the questions of the parents were answered.
