Prof. Nevzat Tarhan: "The right guidance protects people from mistakes"

Reminding that the choice of profession is very important for the candidates, President of Üsküdar University Prof. Nevzat Tarhan made evaluations that will guide the candidate students on the Education Atlas program that is broadcasted on Akit TV. Pointing out that the choice of profession is a branch of science in the faculties of education, Tarhan said that the right guidance protects the person from mistakes. Pointing out that one third of university students want to change their profession, Tarhan said that if the right decision is made at the beginning, there will be no need for this.

Candidates should first get to know themselves

Prof. Nevzat Tarhan mentioned that there are two important decisions in a person’s life, and one of them is the choice of profession and the other is the choice of spouse. Tarhan stated that "There are two important decisions in a person's life. One of them is the spouse and the other is the choice of profession. The more detailed they think while making these two selections, the more they make the right decision, and the healthier their future years will be. Therefore, the choice of profession is important for them. When choosing a profession, it is especially useful for them to pay attention to the following; First of all, they should get to know themselves, their personal characteristics, their strengths, whether they are closer to social or art, artistic fields, whether they are more inclined to fields such as science and health, and they need to be analyzed. As Üsküdar University, there is a test called 'Holland' on our website for convenience, which is a short test used by educators. It gives information about which area one is predisposed to when the person fills in the questions. We determine the characteristics of this person, and then they need to analyze the professions they intend to choose. What are the challenging aspects of these professions, what are the easy aspects? What are the observations and experiences of those who live their lives with that profession, an analysis is needed. After this is over, they should be able to make the connection between their personal characteristics and the professions they are considering.".

Drawing attention to the fact that prospective students should get help from someone who knows during the preference period, Prof. Nevzat Tarhan mentioned that a healthier decision can be made when help is received. Tarhan said that "The choice of profession in the faculties of education has become a branch of science because the professions have multiplied and become specialized. It has details because it is specialized. In such cases, the right guidance protects people from mistakes. In studies of students who are already studying at universities, forty percent say that they are in a field they do not like. In fact, fifty-two percent want to change it after they enter university. Two million people take the exam, almost a third of them want to change their profession. If a person makes the right decision at first, there is no need for it. Therefore, they need to get help from an expert. If one can get help in this way, the person can make the right and healthier decision. It is important here to get the opinion of the family. They go to the preference counselors at the time of preference and make more accurate decisions with their own scores in order of success according to their success rates in their targeted areas with preference robots or preference counselors. If a person takes the responsibility for their own decision, they will overcome the obstacles that will come their way more easily. Life already means overcoming obstacles. As you overcome obstacles, the person improves. Challenges, obstacles are part of growing up. For this reason, there is no profession where everything is rosy without difficulty. The paths of success in life are not full of flowery paths, but of stony paths and obstacles. Those obstacles are not an obstacle for us, they are situations that need to be overcome. If they see it this way, they will have already improved themselves in the university and in life, matured and overcome difficulties. In fact, the purpose of education life is not only to gain technical skills, academic skills, but also to gain social and emotional skills and to teach human relations.".

Tarhan informed on the undergraduate and associate degree departments in 5 different campuses of Üsküdar University and stated that "We especially emphasize quality. We started the quality long ago. We have developed a special software for our students and academics. By creating an online communication network between the student and the instructor, we have made a special program to make the consultancy online so that the student and the academician can easily meet with a special software within the 'STIX' system. We have been using it for 7-8 years. The other is that we bought a software called UKS, that is, a system called university quality system. At the moment, all the meetings held at the university, all the events, everything goes in there and everything are tracked and reported in the form of an activity calendar tracking system. As a result, we became the hundred first in the world among foundation universities. We have been practicing this for a long time and we have collected the fruits of it very well. We are trying to quality, learn and do the opportunities we have in the strongest way."

Prof. Nevzat Tarhan, who talked about the advantages of Üsküdar University's central location, academic staff and Erasmus opportunities, said that "It is accessible everywhere, and it is easy to reach. It is a city university within the city. Academic staff is also very important. They should definitely go in and look at the academic staff of the departments because good education happens with good professors. In other words, the better the instructors, the more efficient they are in education. Just as good football is played with good players, good education is also played with good instructors. Prof. Nevzat Tarhan emphasized that universities do not only provide professions but also teach science and transform knowledge into products and said that "Universities do not just provide professions. It teaches science and turns knowledge into product. It also has a fourth function of these third-generation universities; informs the public. For this reason, we started to give importance to a social impact in these indexes. We care about these and we have a lot of student projects. Last year, 11 students received projects from TÜBİTAK at the same time. Together with the consultant instructors, we became the university that received the most projects in TÜBİTAK in that period. All this for our students, we put the project culture course in the second grade. In the third grade, we give lessons about the project. In the fourth year, we make every student do a graduation project. You also know that another value is that Türkiye will go to space. We will go to space and our genetic teachers have taken the task of genetic examination related to space.
