Üsküdar University at brain studies in the United States
Üsküdar University representing Turkey in Brain İnitiative Project launched in 2013 by the U.S.A. President Barack Obama attended to the brain meeting in Miami on 8-10 April.
16 experts from the Üsküdar University participated 13th annual meeting of the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics (SBMT), and shared their knowledge and experience with their colleagues on many issues including new methods in psychiatry and rTMS (Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) method in neuropsychiatric illnesses. The team headed by Prof. Selahattin Gültekin, Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Üsküdar University, included Prof. Nesrin Dilbaz, Prof. Sinan Canan, Assoc. Prof. Serhat Özekes, Assoc. Prof.Barış Metin, Asst. Prof. Murat Demirer, Asst. Prof. Hüseyin Ünübol, Asst. Prof. Türker Ergüzel, Asst. Prof. Oğuz Tan, Asst. Prof. Barış Önen Ünsalver, Asst. Prof. Nüket İşiten and Dr. Mahir Yeşildal.
Üsküdar University, project partner from Turkey
Üsküdar University attended to the meeting of the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics in Miami as project partner. Last year, Üsküdar University has organized 2nd G20 World Brain Mapping and Therapeutics Scientific Summit together with the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics , and shared the final declaration with the world leaders in Antalya during the G20 on November the 15th.
Üsküdar University, as well as Florida International University (FIU), Brain Mapping Foundation, Miami Children Hospital, Institute for Nerve Medicine and California Neurosurgical Institute participated the meeting as project partner. From NASA to U.S. Army General Surgery Service many institutions are among strategic partners of the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics.

More than 500 scientists attended to the meeting that was realized as a result of 16-month work by the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics, more than 200 presentations were given. In the meeting, many issues such as brain cancer, psychiatric disorders, neuro-nanotechnology, neural recovery, neurosurgery and radiation oncology policies were discussed, awards were also given. Because of their researches in the field of brain, scientists Ted Berger, Bennet Omalu, Aaron Filler, Chenzhong Li, Ken Green, Vicky Yamamoto and Ruogu Fang were awarded. U.S. Congressman Andy Harris was awarded because of his support to the studies on brain, and John Ralston, CEO of X2BioSystems Inc, was rewarded because of their contributions to health technology. Corporal William Kyle Carpenter—wounded very heavily in Afghanistan, managed to survive and received medal of honor 2 years ago from the U.S. President Barack Obama—received Courage and Dedication Award in the meeting.
The aim of the Brain Initiative Project is to develop treatment and to study the unknown secrets of the brain and major diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, Autism, Schizophrenia, and Parkinson's disease.
