Within the scope of the National Space Programme, the science projects that Turkish space travelers Alper Gezeravcı and Tuva Cihangir Atasever will research on the International Space Station have been determined. One of the 13 announced projects to go to space was the 'Message (Microgravity Associated Genetics) Science Mission' developed by Üsküdar University TRGENMER.

There will be a Turk in space in the 100th year of the Republic of Türkiye

In 2023, the 100th year of the Republic of Türkiye, a Turkish astronaut will conduct research on the projects determined on the International Space Station. At Türkiye's Space, Aerospace and Technology Festival TEKNOFEST, an original and a reserve name to go to space were announced. Accordingly, Turkish space travelers Alper Gezeravcı and Tuva Cihangir Atasever (Reserve) will be among the team that will perform 13 different experiments prepared by universities and research institutions on the International Space Station for about two weeks.

13 science projects that will go to space have been announced

Following the announcement of the two names that will be space travelers in 2023 under the National Space Program, the experiments to be carried out within the scope of the program have been announced. One of the experiments to be carried out by Turkish astronauts, who will focus on 13 projects for 14 days on the International Space Station, is the "Message (Microgravity Associated Genetics) Science Mission" project developed by Üsküdar University Transgenic Cell Technologies and Epigenetics Application and Research Center (TRGENMER). The project, which was put forward by Üsküdar University TRGENMER researchers, will be taken to the International Space Station by Turkish space travelers Alper Gezeravcı and Tuva Cihangir Atasever.

The project draws attention to an important area for our future in space

Research applications to go to space were evaluated by a commission consisting of TÜBİTAK, TUA and Axiom Space experts. Criteria such as scientific contribution, value, cost, schedule, feasibility and compatibility with International Space Station infrastructures are known to be effective in project selection. Among the projects determined after long examinations, the "Microgravity Associated Genetics Science Mission" experiment developed by Üsküdar TRGENMER Researchers Büşra Tekirdağlı, Özge Demir, Ebru Çam, Fatmanur Erkek, Berranur Sert and Gamze Gülden was selected as a space traveler.

The project draws attention to a very important area in terms of our future in space. Project Manager Asst. Prof. Cihan Taştan Üsküdar TRGENMER Researchers said: "We aim to analyze the genetic profile of our Turkish Astronaut and to investigate the Anti-Cancer, Proliferation and Immunogenic Effects of the Acoustic Levitation Device Providing Microgravity Environment with the experiment. It is aimed to detect genes whose function has not yet been discovered affected by the non-gravity environment and to determine which of the immune cells will be directly affected by gravity in space missions with CRISPR gene engineering methods.".
