Achievements of graduate students worth supporting...
Two projects in which Prof. Sevim Işık from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Üsküdar University, supervised the thesis and project, were entitled to receive support. The project, which will be supported within the scope of the A2-01 Project Call for Graduate Students of the Health Institutes of Türkiye (TÜSEB), will also investigate innovative methods to reduce neuroinflammation, which plays a critical role in the development of neurodegenerative diseases for which no cure has yet been found.
Üsküdar University graduate students have added a new one to their achievements.
Master's students' projects were entitled to be supported
Sedra Alhelwani and Sajeda Osman, students of the Molecular Biology (English) Master's Program of the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences, were entitled to be supported within the scope of the TÜSEB A2-01 Project Call for Graduate Students with their projects.
In the project, in whichProf. Sevim Işık from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics is the thesis and project advisor, students will investigate innovative methods to reduce neuroinflammation, which plays a critical role in the development of neurodegenerative diseases for which no cure has yet been found.
The in vitro efficacy of red onion-derived exosomes against neuroinflammation will be investigated
In the team of the project named "Investigation of the Efficacy of Red Onion-Derived Exosomes on LPS-Induced Neuroinflammation in Human Microglia HMC3 Cell Line";
Sedra Alhelwani, a graduate student and project coordinator, Prof. Sevim Işık from Üsküdar University, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Prof. Fikrettin Şahin, Head of Genetics and Bioengineering Department of Yeditepe University Faculty of Engineering, Mehtap Aydın, Head of the Department of Biochemistry at Biruni University, Prof. Mehmet Şenel.
Molecular Biology Master's Student Sedra Alhelwani will investigate the in vitro activity of red onion-derived exosomes against neuroinflammation in her project to be carried out in partnership with Yeditepe and Biruni Universities.
Among the goals of the project is to reduce the levels of inflammation-enhancing cytokines and enzyme activities
In the team of the project titled "Investigation of the Anti-Inflammatory Effect of Quercetin-Enriched Cord-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cell Exosomes in LPS-Induced HMC3 Microglia Neuroinflammation Model", those who are among the team are as follows:
Graduate Student and Project Coordinator Sajeda Osman, Thesis and Project Advisor Prof. Sevim Işık from Üsküdar University, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Assoc. Prof. Gülen Melike Demirbolat from Acıbadem University, Faculty of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy Technology.
In the project to be carried out in partnership with Acıbadem University, Sajeda Osman will examine the effects of quercetin-enriched exosomes obtained from umbilical cord stem cells in reducing neuroinflammation in microglia cells in vitro.
Among the goals of the project is to reduce the levels of inflammation-enhancing cytokines and enzyme activities.
It is foreseen that an important basis can be created for research
Both studies aim to explore the synergistic potential of exosome and plant-derived bioactive compounds by reducing neuroinflammation and enriching exosomes with antioxidants in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. With the successful results, it is foreseen that an important basis can be created for research in this field in the future.
