Future dentists put on their white coats with a ceremony

Üsküdar University Faculty of Dentistry 1st year students experienced the joy of wearing white coats. The happiness of the students who wore their white coats, which is the symbol of the first step taken in their professional life, was also shared by their families.

Speaking at the ceremony, President of Üsküdar University Psychiatrist Prof. Nevzat Tarhan stated that "A white coat is not just about being white, but it is about staying white. I have no doubt that you will be able to carry this sacred responsibility and make a difference in your profession."

Üsküdar University Faculty of Dentistry Dean Prof. Ergün Yücel stated that "The white coat is a symbol of hope, honesty, love of humanity and professional responsibility. The white coat you will wear today is not just a garment, but also your commitment to be conscientious, moral and adhere to human values."

The white coat ceremony took place at Üsküdar University Health Campus Ibni Sina Auditorium.

The ceremony was attended by President of Üsküdar University and Psychiatrist Prof. Nevzat Tarhan, Vice Rector Prof. Hikmet Koçak, Vice Rector Prof. Türker Tekin Ergüzel, Dean of Üsküdar University Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Ergün Yücel, Dean of Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine Prof. Haydar Sur, Dean of Üsküdar University Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences Prof. Osman Çerezci, Head of the Department of Medical Pathology of Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine Prof. İbrahim Öztek, faculty academicians, students and parents.

Prof. Nevzat Tarhan: "A white coat is not only about being white, but also about staying white"

President of Üsküdar University Psychiatrist Prof. Nevzat Tarhan made the opening speeches at the white coat ceremony. Tarhan stated that "This white coat is not just an outfit, it is a symbol of purity, honesty and professionalism. By wearing this white coat, you accept a responsibility to serve not only medicine but also humanity. You must be a good person before you can be a good doctor. You should never forget this. The basis of success in your profession is to be empathetic, conscientious and committed to professional ethics. Each of you should always prioritize ethical values, honesty and human love in order to be worthy of the trust your patients place in you. A white coat is not just about being white, it's about staying white. I have no doubt that you will be able to carry this sacred responsibility and make a difference in your profession. I congratulate you all and wish you success in your professional life."

Prof. Hikmet Koçak: "We are very proud to see that they are preparing for this sacred mission"

Üsküdar University Vice Rector Prof. Hikmet Koçak also made a speech at the ceremony and stated that "Every profession is sacred, but professions that serve people have a special importance due to their effects and responsibilities on public health. Honesty, integrity and empathy lie at the heart of health professions. As a symbol of these values, the white coat represents purity, conscientiousness, and professional responsibility. We are very proud to see that our students prepare for this sacred task by developing both their theoretical and practical knowledge in a master-apprentice relationship. One of the most important duties of healthcare professionals is to gain the trust of their patients and serve them in the best possible way. We believe that after graduation, they will use their knowledge and skills in the best way by prioritizing human values. Good luck to our new colleagues, may their paths be open."

Prof. Ergün Yücel: "The white coat is a symbol of human love"

Üsküdar University Faculty of Dentistry Dean Prof. Ergün Yücel emphasized the spiritual values of the white coat. Yücel stated that "The white coat is a symbol of hope, honesty, love of humanity and professional responsibility. The apron you will wear today is not just a piece of clothing, but also your commitment to be conscientious, moral, and adhere to human values. Medicine has been one of the most respected professions in society throughout history. However, this profession is not only a knowledge-based endeavor, but also an art that must be done with empathy, dedication and high ethical values. Taking care of human health is a great privilege and at the same time a heavy responsibility. Remember that you cannot do this profession without love for people. Your white coat is a symbol of healthy living, tackling challenges, honesty, confidant, humility, and service to humanity. Our faculty aims not only to train you as knowledgeable and talented individuals, but also to develop your entrepreneurship, research, social responsibility and communication skills. We would also like to thank your families who have contributed to your success. Their support will be your greatest source of strength on this difficult path."

Muhammed Enver Mesci: "Our aim is to put respect for people at the center of our profession"

Muhammed Enver Mesci, a 1st year student of Üsküdar University Faculty of Dentistry, said in his speech on behalf of his friends at the apron ceremony that "The white coats we wear today symbolize not only the honor of our profession, but also the great responsibility that comes with serving human health. Our aim in embarking on this journey is not only to improve our knowledge and skills, but also to put respect and care for people at the center of our profession. I believe that with the guidance of our teachers, the sacrifices of our families and the support we have for each other, we will continue this challenging but valuable journey. Although this road is bumpy and challenging at times, we will move forward with our heads held high, persevering, and always upholding the dignity that these aprons require. Today is a beginning for all of us and a promise to contribute to humanity."

After the opening speeches, the 1st year students of the Faculty of Dentistry enthusiastically put on their aprons.

Dentistry students were dressed in their white coats by Prof. Nevzat Tarhan, Prof. Hikmet Koçak, Prof. Türker Tekin Ergüzel, Prof. Haydar Sur, Prof. Ergün Yücel, Prof. Osman Çerezci and faculty members.

The students, who wore their white coats, then took the oath of profession in unison under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Barış Karabulut, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry.

The happiness and emotional moments of the families who witnessed this beautiful moment of their children were worth seeing.

The ceremony ended after a group photo shoot.
