High school students competed with their projects at the 9th Science and Ideas Festival

Türkiye's first Science and Idea Festival, organized by Üsküdar University in cooperation with the İstanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education, was held for the 9th time with the motto "Your Idea is Your Invention". Awards were presented to the winning projects at the festival, which was organized in the categories of Health Sciences, Social Sciences, Science and Technology to strengthen the project culture and entrepreneurship practice of high school students and to make life easier.

416 students from 73 schools across İstanbul applied in teams with 197 projects. Within the scope of the Science and Idea Festival, monetary prizes were given to the students.

Rector Prof. Nazife Göngör said to the young people participating in the festival that "Touch science, engage with science, think, work and produce. This world will change as you continue to work in harmony with science. In Gaza, children will not die, but they will laugh."

İstanbul Provincial Director of National Education Assoc. Prof. Murat Mücahit Yentür stated that "We want to raise a faithful, science-friendly, curious and interested youth who respects everyone's rights and laws."

Vice Rector and Festival Coordinator Prof. Muhsin Konuk: stated that "We are proud to have started such a festival for the first time in Türkiye and to be able to continue this festival."

Üsküdar University, in cooperation with the İstanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education, organized and the 9th Ideas Festival for high school students Science. The festival had colorful moments. The award ceremony of the festival, which was held at Üsküdar University Çarşı Campus, was held at Emir Nebi Conference Hall.

Üsküdar District Governor Adem Yazıcı and Üsküdar District Director of National Education Semih Durmuş participated in the festival, which was held for the 9th time with the motto "Your Idea, Your Invention".

Good ideas are celebrated in the festival, which takes place in a festive atmosphere

Üsküdar University Rector Prof. Nazife Göngör noted that good ideas were celebrated at the festival, which took place in a festive atmosphere, and said that the creativity of young people coming out of their bright minds was evaluated.

Prof. Nazife Güngör expressed that "If this world, this humanity, is to be saved, if it is to move towards better days, young people will be possible with the sparkle in your eyes and the light in your brains.” Nazife Göngör stated that "If children will not be slaughtered in this world one day, if one day human beings will not shed their blood, if one day it will be possible to live in a world full of love, respect and human value, this will be possible with the glow on your faces. Therefore, produce, touch science, engage with science, think, work and produce."

Stating that Üsküdar University is a production area and a place where science festivals are held, Prof. Nazife Göngör sai that "Üsküdar University is waiting for all our young people who work, are interested in science, and whose heart beats with the excitement of science. Together with all our young people, we want to do good things together in this journey of humanity with those brilliant minds."

Expressing that they want to make good touches to humanity with the studies carried out as a university, Prof. Nazife Göngör stated that "This world will change as you continue to work in harmony with science. Children will not die in Gaza. Children in Gaza will also have a smile on their faces. They will also be happy. Every living thing and every human being born into the world has the right to live."

"It is very important to write history. However, it is more important to learn from it."

İstanbul Provincial Director of National Education Assoc. Prof. Murat Mücahit Yentür stated that 571 years have passed since the conquest of İstanbul and continued his remarks as follows: "There are very deep messages that the conquest of İstanbul has given us. It is very important to write history. However, it is more important to learn from it. When Mehmet the Conqueror conquered İstanbul, he guaranteed all beliefs, all thoughts and all races with justice and mercy. Today, the concepts of human rights convention, Geneva convention and EU human rights are being introduced to the public with very pompous and fancy sentences in the world. But who is it for? For the powerful. We want to raise a faithful, science-friendly, curious and interested youth who respects everyone's rights and laws. We believe that the most useful of people is the best of people, and the best of people is the one who is useful to people."

Ways to learn to generate new knowledge from information...

Assoc. Prof. Murat Mücahit Yentür stated that they hold consultation meetings with the deans of all education faculties in İstanbul every 3 months and noted that they attach importance to keeping the academic world and practical application together and getting the opinions of the professors.

Stating that the accessibility of information is at the tip of a finger, Assoc. Prof. Murat Mücahit Yentür also said that it is the most important duty of educators to teach the ways to learn to produce new knowledge from information.

Noting that teaching is the name of the profession where being a student never ends, Yentür stated that teachers are both teachers and learners.

Assoc. Prof. Murat Mücahit Yentür stated that they will prepare for the 2024-2025 academic year more strongly and wished success to the 193 thousand students who will take the High School Entrance Exam in İstanbul on June 2 and the students who will take the YKS on June 8-9.

We are proud to be able to continue this festival

Üsküdar University Vice Rector and Festival Coordinator Prof. Muhsin Konuk greeted the young people participating in the festival as "dear youth who show us hope and refresh us" and expressed that "Due to the murders committed in Gaza in front of the eyes of all humanity, we had to fit all our activities into one day. We did not get the enthusiasm of previous years this year. It is a source of pride for us to have started such a festival for the first time in Türkiye and to be able to continue this festival." And Prof. Muhsin Konuk explained that if the top 3 winners in the festival are examined by the patent office and if they have the right to obtain a patent, a patent application will be made on behalf of the students as a university, and if they prefer Üsküdar University, they will complete this scholarship by 75 percent, regardless of the rate of their scholarship.

One of the 13 projects that went to space is from Üsküdar University...

Noting that they are a university that has developed the SMA vaccine, that its R&D has been completed and that the production stage of the drug, which is administered in a single dose for 2.5 million dollars in the USA, has been reached, Prof. Muhsin Konuk stated that "The experiments have shown us that it is more effective than the one produced in America. In cancer immunotherapy, we have also really taken the lead in studies on artificial intelligence. In addition, having one of the 13 projects that go to space supported by TÜBİTAK, we sent experimental studies to space with the concern of how genes work in conditions where there is no gravity, and if we meet those conditions, can we find a new method in cancer treatment, the necessary studies have been carried out there, and now the analyzes on the earth are taking place."

Prof. Muhsin Konuk, who also stated that they have become a university that is the brain base of Türkiye to see if neurodegenerative diseases can be treated in different ways, said that they are waiting for young people to come to the university as students.

This year's motto is: "Your Idea Is Your Invention"

At Üsküdar University 9th Science and Ideas Festival, projects competed in three categories: Health Sciences, Social Sciences, Science and Technology. This year, the projects that ranked high in the festival organized with the motto "Your Idea Your Invention" were awarded.

416 students from 73 schools across İstanbul applied in teams with 197 projects. Within the scope of the Science and Idea Festival, 15 thousand TL was awarded to the first project, 7 thousand 500 TL to the second project, and 4 thousand 500 TL to the third project in each category. The top 3 projects in each category will be given "Patenting support" by Üsküdar University. Projects ranked between 4-6 were given 1500 TL as the "Successful Project Award", and 7 thousand 500 TL worth of technology gift vouchers were given as the "SIF Special Award" to a project that passed the preliminary evaluation. The advisor teachers of the students who ranked high were also given an award worth half of the award of the winning project.

The winners in the Science and Technology category are...

In the Science and Technology category, Deniz Cartı, Berk Çınar Aydemir and Fuat Kaan Kalaycı from Doğan Cüceloğlu Science High School won the first place with their project titled "The Effects of the Use of Nano Voltaic Luminescence Effect Nanographene Quantum Dot Solution and Seven Mercapto Four Methly Coumarine on Dye-Sensitive Solar Cells". The students received their awards together with their advisor Yonca Bozkurt. In the Science and Technology category, Kudret Hümeyra Kula from Private Okyanus Science and Project High School came second with her project titled "Don does not throw away shells, multiply shelf life". The students received their awards with their advisor İdil Melis Dinç.

In the Science and Technology category, Emre Dağ and Mehmet Selim Baraçlı from Pertevniyal High School were awarded the third place with their project titled "Disaster chair". The students received their awards together with their advisor Günay Esra Gürbuz.

In the Science and Technology category, Bahriye Eylül Çelikel from Private Kemerburgaz Okyanus Anatolian High School presented her project titled "Acıbadem and Garden Balm Against the Threat in Tomato Gardens" with her advisor Burak Çakar, Emir Çarko, Muhammed Mesut Kılıç, Abdullah Ergen, Alihan Coşkun and Muhammet Ali Bozkır from International Fatih Sultan Mehmet Anatolian High School, their project titled "So-Ver" prepared with their advisor teacher Bayram Yılmaz, and Ayşe from Suat Terimer Anatolian High School Berrin Şehirli and Taha Emin Güler were deemed worthy of honorable mention for their project titled "The Effect of Carbon Quantum Dots Obtained from Licorice Root Extracts on the Germination Process of Okra Seeds under Stress Conditions", which they prepared under the consultancy of Rukiye Kalın.

In the Health Sciences category, Elif İklim Sevim, Beyza Erdem and Süveybe Sena Çetiner from Kağıthane Girls' Anatolian Imam Hatip High School won the first place with their project titled "Seize the Day". The students received their awards together with their advisor Bilge Yılmaz.

Naime Duru Sarıgül from FVM Private Işık High School took the second place in the Health Sciences category with her project titled "Making Alternative Mouthwash from Juniper, Cinnamon and Sage Plants". Sarıgül received her award together with her advisor teacher Gizem Türer.

In the Health Sciences category, the third place was won by Rumeysa Güdük, Ebrar Yabalak and Rabia Alkış, from Kağıthane Girls' Anatolian Imam Hatip High School, with their project titled "Breath of Life". The students received their awards together with their advisor Barış Turan.

Three projects received honorable mentions in the Health Sciences category. Ezel Bülbül and Elif Asya Göçer from Abidin Nesimi Fatinoğlu Anatolian High School were deemed worthy of honorable mention with their project titled "The Superhero of Food: The Anti-Mold Power of Oak Leaves", which they prepared under the supervision of their teacher Münevver Öztürk.

Merve Nur Kaya and Sümeyye Gözpınar from Volunteer Service Foundation Mustafa Saffet Science High School received honorable mention with their project titled "Investigation of the Effect of Garlic Extract on Normal and Cancer Cells with Radiation", which they prepared under the supervision of teacher Erdem Taşçıoğlu. Deniz Barbaros Yılmaz, Miraç Timurtaş, Ayşe Melike Yüksel and Zehra Özyahni from Pertevniyal High School also received honorable mentions for their project titled "Cerahat Prevention", which they prepared under the supervision of teacher Esra Gürbüz.

In the Social Sciences category, Ahmet Ufuk Gökçe from Private Çekmeköy Derya Öncü Anatolian High School won the first place with his project titled "Different Perspectives on Refugees of European and Middle Eastern Origin, Comparison of Türkiye and Germany", which they prepared under the supervision of their teacher Nagihan Demir.

In the Social Sciences category, Ömer Yağız Zengin and Toprak Acar from Private Esenkent Okyanus Anatolian High School came second with their project titled "Sustainable Water Production from the Atmosphere to the Fields to the Thirsty World" under the supervision of their teacher Feyyaz Bilici. Efe Yargısal, Serra Yıldız and Mahmut Arda Dursun from TED Private Atakent Anatolian High School, under the supervision of their teacher Elif Buran, prepared a book titled "The Web on the Comprehension of Proverbs and Idioms in Teaching Turkish to Foreigners with Film/Series Sections. 0.2 Supported Application" was awarded the third place.

Honorable mentions in Social Sciences

Three projects were also deemed worthy of honorable mention in the Social Sciences category. Erdem Çulfaz, Zeybe Güney Bozcuk and Yusuf Emir Ulu from Governor Muammer Güler Social Sciences High School with their project titled "Research on the Future Expectation and Self-Confidence Relations of Social Sciences High School Students" prepared under the supervision of Özlem Göçer, and Zeynep Nevin Pamukçu, Sare Çetinkaya and Duru Nefise Çörekçi from Governor Muammer Güler Social Sciences High School prepared under the supervision of their teacher Sibel Öztürk with their project titled "What is Difficulty to Leave or to Stay: Generation Z Why Does They Want to Leave" projects and Governor Muammer Güler Social Sciences High School Algın Ulutürk received honorable mentions with their project "Gender Factor in Türkiye's Migration Regime, The Case of Immigrant Women", which was prepared under the supervision of their teacher Zeynep Almali.

The SIF Special Award also found its winner...

The 2024 SIF Special Award was won by the project named "Lead Life" from İstanbul Atatürk Science High School, which competed in the Science and Technology Category.

At the award ceremony, honorable mentions were given to 9 projects participating from İstanbul Science and Art Centers BİLSEM this year.

The district that sent the most projects was Beylikdüzü...

In the program, where a certificate of appreciation was given to the teachers and panelists of Üsküdar University assigned by the İstanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education, a plaque was also presented to the Beylikdüzü District Directorate of National Education, which is the district that sent the most projects this year.

The ceremony, which was broadcast live on Üsküdar University Television (ÜÜ TV) and Üsküdar University's official YouTube account, ended with the participants taking a group photo together.
