Under the coordination of Üsküdar University Health, Culture and Sports Department, a cultural trip was made to Edirne Complex of Sultan Bayezid II Health Museum by the Nursing Club of the Faculty of Health Sciences. Head of the Department of Nursing Prof. Selma Doğan, Vice President Prof. Nurcan Uysal, academicians of the department and many students participated in the trip.

Students of the nursing department showed great interest in the museum, where the practices in the field of health in the 15th century were revived.

Within the scope of the trip, students learned important information about the medical education and health services provided in the past.

After the museum tour, the important architectural structures of the city, which stands out with its historical texture, were also visited.

About Edirne Complex of Sultan Bayezid II Health Museum:

The complex, which was built by Sultan Bayezid II in Edirne in 1488 and is one of the important structures of the Ottoman Period, consists of many units such as a 30-bed hospital, a medical madrasah, a mosque, a guesthouse, an imaret and a bath.

Health services are provided in many fields such as psychiatry, plastic surgery, otorhinolaryngology, gynecology, ophthalmology, and infectious diseases.

The most important feature of Darüşşifa is that in addition to medical practices, music, water sound, aromatherapy and occupation therapy are used especially in the treatment of psychiatric patients. The medical books taught in the medical madrasa and important documents describing health practices have survived to the present day and are under protection in the Selimiye Manuscript Library.
