Üsküdar University Faculty of Communication, Department of Journalism organized a "Sports Journalism" event. The event, which attracted great attention, was attended by Fotospor General Coordinator Cahit Yavuz, Sports Announcer Elis Buse Araç and Türkiye Newspaper Sports Reporter Ferhat Kızıltaş. At the event, the current state of sports media was discussed.

The event, which took place at Üsküdar University Fuat Sezgin Conference Hall, was moderated by Assoc. Prof. Bahar Muratoğlu Pehlivan.

Advisor to the Rector Prof. Süleyman İrvan and Head of the Department of Journalism of the Faculty of Communication Assoc. Prof. Gül Esra Atalay also attended the event.

Cahit Yavuz: "We have an audience to inspire, as long as we give inspiration there"

Fotospor General Coordinator Cahit Yavuz described the information received from all kinds of media in the sports media as a product and pointed out that it is important to be inspired to benefit from these products. Yavuz stated that "The farmer produces tomatoes and eggplants, and we buy from them. We meet some of our needs. In fact, the first of our needs here is to be inspired. To be inspired, you need to do something to inspire. To do this, there must be a production, which is sports production. There are organizations in sports production. These organizations give a message to the society, and we receive those messages as individuals in this society and in it. When a subject is conveyed from the media, our people accept it and can pursue this information, that is, we have an audience to inspire, as long as we can give that inspiration there."

"You need to have a lot of knowledge to be able to comment"

Referring to the importance of information in sports commentary, Cahit Yavuz expressed that "You need to know a little bit of physiology, a little bit of anatomy to be able to comment. It is necessary to have a lot of knowledge to be able to comment. When this information is known, there is a difference between you and the man in the stands. That is why I think we are talking about a human issue. How does the mind respond to a human subject, what is the methodology of thinking? It is really hard to comment without knowing these things. It can also get a little silly when commented on. In our country, it is easy to talk nonsense, yes, sometimes it can be pleasant, there is a joke, but there is no production involved. Therefore, information is extremely important, but this information is not just statistical information. There should also be measurement and evaluation information. Others become our opinions. Everyone respects any opinion, but commenting is a little different than that."

Elis Buse Araç: "I am the only woman in the world of sports to make transfer news"

Emphasizing that everyone is the same in the sector and therefore it is a privilege to be different in the work to be done, Sports Announcer Elif Buse Araç stated that "First of all, there are a lot of women in the industry and our number is increasing day by day, but we are all the same. We all stand in front of a camera and read the news. Why are we all the same? We are lined up like links in such a chain, everyone is on the same task? Being the same bores me a lot. For this reason, I looked for a difference in the sector. I have never set my sights high; however, I have always aimed to be different. I asked myself, 'What do not women do in this sector?' and I saw that women did not make transfer news, they did not give special news, and I said that I would open a different lane for women. Today, I am the only woman in the sports world who makes transfer news."

"There are two golden rules to remember"

Referring to the fact that one of the biggest problems of the sector is that reporters are now getting information from each other, Araç said that "If you are going to do this, there are two golden rules that you should keep in mind. First, no journalist gets information from any journalist. Second, all information needs confirmation. They transmit the information they receive directly without confirming it. You must confirm every piece of information. After that, you can transfer it because it leads to information pollution. There is no evil that information pollution cannot cause."

Ferhat Kızıltaş: "The number of writers in digital media will leave traditional media behind"

Talking about the reasons why sports commentators left traditional media and turned to digital media, Türkiye Newspaper Sports Reporter Ferhat Kızıltaş stated that "A lot of commentators are moving away from television and into digital media. I was also very curious about the problem of this. Of course, economic gain can be decisive here, but when we investigate this, censorship is very decisive here, there is a comfortable environment in digital media. There is an abundance of middle-aged commentators in the traditional media, and young people are not given many chances. Especially when I look at five years from now, the number of writers in digital media will have increased much more than in traditional media because now all of them can report on transfers and be cited as sources. For example, only one person gives a source and enters the transfer news. This used to be very impossible for me. In my opinion, this has increased personal journalism. The number of writers in digital media will surpass traditional media.".

"Broadcasters on television channels do not meet their viewers much"

Talking about the pros and cons of being able to reach the commentator in instant broadcasts, Kızıltaş stated that "Broadcasters on TV channels do not get to meet their viewers very much. Even if they do not agree with them, they cannot say anything directly; however, in instant broadcasts, I can make a comment there and reach the commentator. I can comment on their posts that have received millions of views, and they can sue me. Comments can reach the level of insults. There is also a problem: if it meets certain conditions, it is now possible to pay per view. I think this created a huge problem because reporters started to send posts that would provoke their opposing arch-rivals. Because when this happens, it will get an incredible viewership."

The event ended with a group photo shoot.
