Üsküdar University Vocational School of Health Services Dental Prosthesis Technology Program organized an event called "Current Perspective on Dental Technicians". Dental Technician Coşkun Kasapoğlu attended the event as a guest. Coşkun Kasapoğlu shared his professional experiences and the past and present of the profession with the students. Stating that one of the biggest contributions of the trainings he gives is to learn better, Kasapoğlu expressed that "During the process of being an instructor, I was both studying and continuing to receive training.”

Üsküdar University Vocational School of Health Services Dental Prosthesis Technology Program Head Asst. Prof. Damla Yılmazoğlu was the moderator of the event held at Üsküdar University Çarşı Campus.

"You know a lot of people and it helps you in the future."

Pointing out that it is important to get to know people professionally, Dental Technician Coşkun Kasapoğlu said that "Some of the laboratories I have been in have been really dirty. Of course, there were good and clean ones among them. In fact, one day we were in a laboratory in Kayseri, and I can say that the work was in such a filthy way; therefore, it looks a little unpleasant. Later, of course, I saw the benefit of working in various laboratories because you know a lot of people and it will be useful for you in the future. After a while, I started to work as an instructor while I was training in that laboratory. In this teaching process, I was actually both studying and continuing to receive training. Although these trainings of ours are 1-2 days of training, we have trained five thousand five hundred people, which is a very serious figure. One of the contributions of these trainings was that I learned technical information very well. While I was explaining the product, more experienced technicians were telling me technical information."

"There is also a concept called aesthetic dentistry"

Talking about the aesthetic meaning of teeth on people, Kasapoğlu expressed that "There is a part of the profession called prosthetics out of necessity. When we look at it, people can lose teeth. Sometimes it can be due to traumas, sometimes due to decayed teeth. We make a prosthesis, the main purpose of the prosthesis we make in the mouth is to restore the missing limb of the patient. While doing this, it is also very important how close we do it to reality. When the tooth is extracted, tissue loss goes away and visibility decreases. When the tooth is involved in the operations, a much younger appearance can be obtained. There is even a concept called aesthetic dentistry. This is a trend especially started by Hollywood. Temporary teeth are made for the actors only for that movie, and then it is seen that it can be done permanently. Afterwards, it is seen how much the teeth contribute to aesthetics."

"I have met very good technician friends, but they do not know a second language"

Underlining that self-development is as important as experience and knowledge in the profession, Kasapoğlu said that "Language is very important in the profession. I have met very good technician friends, but they do not speak a foreign language. Since they did not speak a second language, certain doors were not opened. They earn a lot and even have their own laboratory. Maybe the difference between me and them is that I know the language. The importance of photography is really great in the profession. I am a professional dental photographer and an amateur nature photographer."

Even the needs between the past and the present have changed...

Stating that changes have taken place in the profession as in everything else, Kasapoğlu expressed that "The more accurately we examine the teeth, the more differently we can approach. In fact, what is our goal? It is to be able to make a tooth that is different that the nature and to know the materials we use well. The porcelain systems we use have a layering system. Some are glassy, some are grayer, and all of this has a counterpart in nature. There has been a trend lately. Everyone wants a whiter tooth. When I started my profession, the question of what materials and techniques do you use when making natural teeth was mostly asked. Recently, the most frequently asked question is how to make tooth fastest and in the least time. It is necessary to be fast in these processes because sometimes very serious failures can occur."

The event ended with a group photo shoot.
