A cooperation protocol was signed between Üsküdar University and the Celiac Foundation. Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Celiac Foundation Dr. Elif Bal Beşikçi and Üsküdar President of University Prof. Nevzat Tarhan discussed the details of the cooperation.

Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Celiac Foundation Dr. Elif Bal Beşikçi, President of Üsküdar University Prof. Nevzat Tarhan, Üsküdar University Rector Prof. Nazife Güngör, Secretary General Selçuk Uysaler, Deputy Secretary General Asil Barış Bağ, Head of Corporate Communications Department Tahsin Aksu and Media PR Unit Manager Şaban Özdemir attended the cooperation protocol held at Üsküdar University Senate Hall.

Celiac Foundation Founder Elif Bal Beşikçi: "We aim to raise awareness of celiac disease"

Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Celiac Foundation, Dr. Elif Bal Beşikçi underlined that it is the aim of the Celiac Foundation to raise awareness of gluten-free nutrition in Türkiye. Beşikçi said that "Today, we will conclude that Üsküdar University supports our Celiac Foundation with this official ceremony. The Celiac Foundation was established in April 2023 and our foundation has carried out various activities for Celiac patients since its begining. Our aim is to raise awareness of Celiac disease in Türkiye and to fight against the gluten-free diet brought about by the disease. We are working to fight for a gluten-free diet in schools, workplaces and social life, both in universities and in all areas of life. I am glad to be collaborating here today."

Prof. Nevzat Tarhan: "Social responsibility projects are valuable"

Pointing out that social responsibility projects such as the Celiac Foundation are very valuable and that the efforts to inform the society are very important, President of Üsküdar University Prof. Nevzat Tarhan said that "There are ten million people in the world, especially in Denmark, and twenty million people have developed associations. The United Nations declared that non-governmental organizations were not participants of the government, but partners. The establishment of the Celiac Foundation and its work in this field are important."

"You will conduce to an early diagnosis for many people with awareness studies"

Noting that one should not act according to the opinion of a single physician in his speech, Prof. Nevzat Tarhan stated that "There are three types of medical methods: therapeutic medicine, known medicine, preventive medicine. The most important thing is preventive medicine, that is, working to prevent people from getting sick. You will conduce to an early diagnosis for many people with public information and awareness studies about diseases. There is professional blindness in medicine, and even in many professions. Rare diseases, especially routine diseases, evaluated in the most immediate possibility. Detailed examination overlooks something routine with a questioning approach; therefore, it should not act with the opinion of a single physician. It is very important to get a second opinion on this issue in resistant situations. These should be especially considered in diseases with heart, intestinal burn. In cases with chronic growth retardation that does not improve, celiac should be considered as an option. As a university, we will do research on 'What will we do in our own cafeteria?' and we can give seminars to students on this subject and carry out activities within the scope of university culture. It is necessary to work on this by contacting the department of nutrition and dietetics and our child development department, and we can do both scientific work and awareness work. As a university, we will try to do our best in this regard."
