Special techniques for literary translation were recommended
Üsküdar University, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of English Translation and Interpreting celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Republic. As part of the anniversary celebrations, the department organized an event titled "Poets Translating Poets: Turkish Poetry in Translation". Translator Mete Özel and Translator Jeffrey Kahrs participated in the event as guests.
The event received great attention, which was moderated by Üsküdar University, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of English Translation and Interpreting, Assist Başak Ergil.
The event, which was held in the South Campus İbni Sina conference hall, started with a bilingual poetry reading. Poems and English translations of contemporary Turkish poets were read by the students of the Department of English Translation and Interpreting.
At the event, the speakers talked about their experiences while translating, their translation processes, their decisions and their communication with the poets.
Special techniques for literary translation were recommended
The poet-translators, who said that they were preparing a selection on contemporary Turkish women poets, gave general advice to prospective translators on literary translation and suggested special techniques.
Questions and answers were also held at the event, which was attended by students of Translation Studies and English literature from different universities such as Yeditepe University and Istanbul Yeni Yüzyıl University.
The event ended with the presentation of a certificate of appreciation and a plaque by the Head of the Department of English Translation and Interpreting at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Assist. Prof. Nafi Yalçın.
