Attracting attention with its academic studies with artificial intelligence applications in the Health Sciences since its foundation in 2011, Üsküdar University opened a course titled “Artificial Intelligence and Data Science for Innovation in Health” for the Faculty of Medicine students since the 2023-2024 Academic Year. Therefore, students of the Faculty of Medicine can see modelling approaches used in big data analysis as a project application.

Paradigm Shift in Personalized Medical Practices

In Health Sciences, big data and artificial intelligence (AI) are playing important roles with the potential for innovation, disease diagnosis, follow-up and treatment response prediction and transforming the way healthcare is delivered. With its high resolution and developing data collection tools and health data paves the way for many exciting new discoveries in clinical analysis processes, especially in biomarker detection. We can talk about the paradigm shift towards precision medicine with high-speed machines and big data with AI applications. In this process, predictive models created with deep learning algorithms that replace the old generation superficial learning algorithms provide higher accuracy to physicians in diagnosis, follow-up and treatment processes with raw data.

It will be ensured that high-accuracy models in diagnosis and treatment will become widespread...

"Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Systems Application and Research Center" has been carrying out interdisciplinary studies under the leadership of Üsküdar University President Prof. Nevzat Tarhan and continuing this vision for 10 years with the "Therapeutic brain mapping, biological psychiatry and neurotechnology working group" in which the fields of psychiatry, psychology, molecular biology, genetics, biotechnology and engineering work together. While drawing attention to the importance of the subject with his statements, Prof. Nevzat Tarhan stated that "Artificial intelligence technologies will eliminate the need for the wisdom of the physician". It is aimed to use high-accuracy models in health sciences that combine the knowledge and clinical experience of the physician, can make quick decisions, and are widely used in diagnosis and treatment processes.

It is aimed to complete the clinical interpretation project...

With the "Artificial Intelligence and Data Science for Innovation" course which will be opened at Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine and will be taken by all students from the 4th grade, physician candidates will acquire the ability to develop basic code skills with programming language, to use and interpret big data, machine learning, image processing, optimization, and modeling concepts with learning and application tools. Üsküdar University, which currently carries out big data analysis studies with its science and application partner NPİSTANBUL Hospital, has made the application developed in this process unique with an international patent application and aims to complete the clinical interpretation project of the model result that students will obtain with big data by analyzing raw neuroimaging data at the end of the 16-week curriculum.

Artificial intelligence and data-oriented courses will contribute to the clinic…

Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Systems Applications and Research Center Director Prof. Türker Tekin Ergüzel said that they believe artificial intelligence and big data focused courses, which are also taught in the Faculty of Medicine of the universities such as Harvard, Stanford and Imperial College London, will contribute to students to improve and diversify their basic and clinical skills and to gain holistic skills.
