Prof. Carl W. Ernst will give lectures in the Summer School of Institute for Sufi Studies

Prof. Carl W. Ernst, one of the most significant academicians in USA to fight Islamophobia, will come to Üsküdar University to give lectures in the Summer School of Institute for Sufi Studies. Prof. Ernst was awarded “DOST “The Friend” Service the Islam Award” in 2005 due to his book called “Following Muhammad”. 

Üsküdar University’s Institute for Sufi Studies will hold an intensive international summer school on Sufi Studies during 16-29 July 2018 with the support of the Kerim Foundation with the world-renowned scholars of Islamic studies.

Prof. Carl W. Ernst will give lectures in the Summer School of Institute for Sufi Studies 2Among the world-renowned names to teach at summer school, Prof. Carl W. Ernst who is considered the most prominent authority on Western-originated Islamic researches in today's scientific world will also teach in the Summer School.

He also deeply influenced the upcoming generation about the academic field after his teacher Annemarie Schimmel.and enabled the work on Islam to be positively positioned under Religious Research Departments.

Prof. Carl W. Ernst, the faculty member of Chapel Hill North Carolina University, Department of Religious Studies and Islamıc Researches, was born in 1950 in Los Angeles.

Prof. Carl W. Ernst became known for his study on religious comparisons at Stanford University in 1973, received his doctorate at Harvard University in 1981.  

Prof. Ernst is still the faculty member of Chapel Hill North Carolina University, Department of Religious Studies and Islamıc Researches and he teaches the general and critical issues in Islamic studies process, the issues of pre-modern and mystical Sufism and Hindu-Muslim culture based on Arabian, Persian and Urdu.

Rewarded with DOST The Friend” Service the Islam Award” 

Prof. Ernst was rewarded with “DOST “The Friend” Service the Islam Award” in 2005 due to his book called “Following Muhammad”. 

Prof. Ernst, whose book was translated to Turkish, initiated Chapel Hill North Carolina University, Department of Religious Studies and Islamıc Researches, Ken’an Rifâî Islamic Studies Chair in 2009 jointly with TÜRKKAD.
