Starting in the 1990s, the World Health Organization (WHO) started to support the research and implementation of traditional and complementary medicine, primarily at the level of universities, for the complementary and supportive role in medicine.
The preference of patients in developed countries for natural treatment methods due to the current treatment methods and side effects of the drugs used and the financial inadequacies in developing countries have supported the introduction of traditional and complementary medicine in terms of public health.
In this context, the World Health Organization has requested the identification of applicable treatment branches and methods. In our country, the Ministry of Health has established a department of traditional and complementary medicine and appointed a head of department to identify such treatment branches, organize training, standardize the training levels of practitioners, and determine ethical and legal issues. For the past two years, it has held meetings with relevant associations and practitioners to discuss the issue.
