Üsküdar University and Society for Brain Mapping & Therapeutics (SBMT) have created a Global Consortium of Neurotech in Psychiatry

Society for Brain Mapping & Therapeutics, one of the fastest growing multi-specialty international associations headquartered in California, has partnered with Üsküdar University creating first global consortium of Neuro-Tech (Pharma-Tech, Bio-Tech, Cell-Tech and Med-Tech) in psychiatry field aiming at creating complete paradigm shift in the field fast tracking diagnostics and therapeutics for patient with neuro-psychiatric disorders and mental illness.

At the 22nd annual Neurotech congress of the SBMT held in Los Angeles, USA between February 27 - March 2, which includes around 1000 distinguished physicians, engineers, scientists and surgeons in the field of neurosurgery, neurology, psychiatry, engineering and neuroscience, President of Üsküdar University , President and Chairman of Middle East Brain Initiative (ME+), and member of Board of Directors of Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics (SBMT) Prof. Nevzat Tarhan stated that “Üsküdar University has been on the forefront of patient care and with this consortium we invite all other associations, universities, pharmaceuticals, medical device, bio-tech and cell-tech companies to join us in designing better diagnostics and clinical solutions for patients who suffer from mental disorders.” Üsküdar University and NPİSTANBUL Hospital researchers and physician scientists will have a series of presentations including a featured talk by Prof. Tarhan, Prof. Dilbaz, Prof. Ergüzel, Prof. Metin, Prof. Işık, this newly formed consortium opening this collaboration to all universities and industry leaders.

Expressing that as a practicing psychiatrist he always felt a great need for closing the gap between surgical specialties and psychiatry, Professor of Psychiatry Up State university, President Elect of World Psychiatry Association (WPA) and member of board of SBMT. Prof. Thomas Schulze stated that “I am truly delighted to see that Üsküdar and SBMT are coming together and leading the way and also inviting other associations and pharmaceuticals to join these remarkable efforts.”

This consortium will be expanded at the 22nd annual Neurotech convention, which will include 15 parallel sessions on skull-base surgery, spine surgery, epilepsy, neuro-modulation, neurodegenerative disorders (Parkinson’s Disease, Alzheimer’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis), neurotech, AI, robotics, neuro-engineering, cell and immunotherapy, neuro-oncology, autism, neuro-psychiatric disorders, neuroradiology, functional neurosurgery, nanotechnology, neuro-photonics, sports medicine, neurotrauma and military medicine, ophthalmology, and optometry as well as bio-skills labs for surgical training (skull-base, peripheral nerve and eye surgeries) showcasing latest technologies and pharmaceutical interventions.

Dr. Dave Baron, Professor of Psychiatry at the Western University, member of the board of SBMT and co-chair of Psychiatry subcommittee of SBMT, stated that “This is truly exciting consortium and unique convention, which I highly recommend to my psychiatrist colleagues because scientists and groups you meet in this consortium are world class. This year we have Olympians on the panel of sport psychiatry amongst many other luminaries and world-renowned scientists.”

Prof. Dilbaz, professor of psychiatry at Üsküdar University, will be chairing Recent Protocols for Neuropsychiatric Disorders in Türkiye: Panel Discussion. The researchers from Türkiye will explore the latest advancements and treatment protocols for neuropsychiatric conditions within the Turkish healthcare system. The panel will delve into cutting-edge research, clinical approaches, and innovative therapies, including neurotechnological interventions, pharmacological treatments, and integrative mental health strategies. Researchers will also address the role of personalized medicine and data-driven insights in improving patient outcomes, alongside an examination of the unique challenges faced in implementing these protocols in Türkiye’s healthcare landscape. The discussion will highlight collaborations between academic institutions, hospitals, and government agencies in advancing neuropsychiatric care.

Üsküdar University, Head of the Software Engineering Department and Vice Rector Prof. Ergüzel will be co-chairing Telepsychiatry & AI in Mental Health: Panel Discussion. The Role of Sports in Mental Health, Psychiatric Education Past, Present, and Future, Substance Use Disorders, Advances in Genomics, Clinical trials, & Community Psychiatry, International Collaboration in Psychiatry: Challenges and Opportunities, and Brain Stimulation and Neuromodulation will be held in the sessions where international researchers will take part in the research results.

This consortium is aimed at scientific collaborations and regional neuroscience-oriented studies carried out together between Üsküdar University and SBMT have gained momentum after the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed aimed at the acceleration and implementation of neuro-diagnosis and treatments through the transformation, sharing, integration and commercialization of neurotechnologies. This consortium now includes the US, European, Middle Eastern and Asian delegations.

A Southern California consortium is led by the Community Translational Research Institute (CTRI) in Claremont California. C. Anderson Johnson, PhD, CTRI CEO and University Professor at Claremont Graduate University (CGU) and Sidney Garfield Professor of Preventive Medicine and Psychology Emeritus at the University of Southern California (USC) will co-chair together with Dave Baron, DO Senior Scientist at CTRI and Professor of Psychiatry at Western University and CGU, a session entitled “A community-based model for prevention of neuro-psychiatric disorders in childhood and adolescence”. The session will describe a community-embedded mental health team supported in part by California healthcare innovations in disease prevention and early intervention.

The model from the team’s ongoing research on the brain’s impulse regulatory mechanisms and social/environmental factors that appear to influence their development. The CTRI consortium includes faculty, fellows, and students from multiple southern California colleges and universities including CGU, USC, UCLA, Western University, and West Coast University, and the leadership of area health and social service organizations, including the Inland Empire Health Plan. Attention will be given to converging findings from similar consortia developed by the team in China, India, Finland, and other regions of the world.
