Üsküdar University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and Üsküdar University Strategic Studies Application and Research Center (ÜSSAM) organized an event titled "The 1694th Anniversary of the Establishment of İstanbul". The event, which received great attention, was attended by Dr. Architect Sinan Genim, Researcher and Author İsmail Tokalak, Mert Aysoysal and Turkish Miniature Artist and Painter Günseli Kato. At the event, information was given about the history and culture of İstanbul.

The moderator of the event, which took place at Üsküdar University South Campus Socrates Hall, was Prof. Mahmut Arslan, a faculty member of Ibn Haldun University, Faculty of Management Sciences, Department of Business Administration.

Vice Rector Prof. Muhsin Konuk also attended the event.

Dr. Architect Sinan Genim: "It is a privilege to live in this city"

Talking about the past history of İstanbul and the historical settlements found in İstanbul, Dr. Architect Sinan Genim stated that "It is a privilege to live in this city. Many people complain, but unfortunately, the culture of complaining, criticism and defamation is very large in our country. I would like most young people in our country to stay away from these jobs. It is easy because everyone does it and it does not have any permanence.”

Researcher and Author İsmail Tokalak: "A culture does not die with another culture"

Underlining that it is necessary to add each civilization on top of another civilization, Researcher and Writer İsmail Tokalak stated that "It is necessary to add each civilization above another civilization. It is fed from the previous and nothing is done out of the blue, and it is not possible to do it. It has to have a history. One culture does not die with another. The Hittites did not disappear. After the Hittites, the Lydians always influenced each other. They influenced it as writing, they influenced it as culture, they influenced it as religion. Life with the Sumerians always goes on like this."

Mert Aysoysal: "Getting to know our İstanbul is a civic duty"

Pointing out that there is an ongoing cultural continuity in İstanbul, Mert Aysoysal stated that "İstanbul is an issue that we need to be aware of. Why I say it is an issue that we need to be aware of, because we live in this geography and we owe it to know them, at least to a certain level. I think that it should be addressed as a person, a citizen living in this land, not as an intellectual accumulation of knowledge because of the debt of citizenship, and I think it should be addressed more broadly in schools and universities."

Painter Günseli Kato: "İstanbul means Türkiye..."

Turkish Miniature Artist and Painter Günseli Kato talked about the aesthetics and beauty of İstanbul. Kato stated that "Being from İstanbul is not an easy thing. We are currently trying to live with this decency. I do not fight with anyone, because we hav been given that kind of upbringing, but let me tell you this. İstanbul means an empire, İstanbul means a palace of society, and İstanbul means Mimar Sinan. Keep this in mind and if you focus on these issues and try to learn, you will be an ‘İstanbuler’. İstanbul means Türkiye, İstanbul means Anatolia, and İstanbul means the focal point of the world… Let's not forget that."

The event ended with a group photo shoot.
