Prof. Tarhan stated that "In many cases, the period of going back to one’s childhood unnecessarily has passed. The era of physicians who respect people's traumas has begun."

The International Positive Psychology Congress, which was held for the 6th time this year by Üsküdar University with the partnership of Üsküdar University, NPİSTANBUL Hospital, NP Etiler & Feneryolu Medical Center, Turkish Psychological Counseling and Guidance Association and Positive Psychology Institute, welcomes global experts working in the field. The theme of this year's two-day congress is "Positive Psychology in Interpersonal Relationships".

The opening was made by Prof. Nevzat Tarhan

The congress, which will last for 2 days at Üsküdar University Central Campus Nermin Tarhan Conference Hall, started with the opening speeches by Congress President and President of Üsküdar University Prof. Nevzat Tarhan, Üsküdar University Rector Prof. Nazife Güngör, Üsküdar University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Vice Dean Assist. Prof. Elif kurtuluş Anarat and Secretary General of the Congress, Positive Psychology Coordinator Asst. Prof. Fatma Turan.

"At first, it was thought to be life coaching and personal development..."

In the program, which was also broadcast live on ÜTV, Congress President and President of Üsküdar University Rector Prof. Nevzat Tarhan stated that positive psychology was thought to be life coaching and personal development at first and its theoretical basis was asked, and Tarhan said that "The theoretical foundations of positive psychology are based on neuroscience."

Noting that he wrote books on preventive mental health in the 2000s because there was a paradigm shift in medicine, Prof. Tarhan expressed that "The most important thing in the changing paradigm in health is the protection of health.”

Pointing out the importance of studies to prevent people from getting sick, Tarhan stated that "The primary protection is to protect health so that the society does not get sick. Secondary prevention is to identify risk groups, to identify risk groups early and to include them in treatment. Tertiary prevention after treatment is also to work to prevent recurrence..."

"Instead of opening wounds in traumas, the period of how to treat them without opening wounds has emerged..."

Noting that the method of treating without opening wounds has become ideal in medicine, Prof. Tarhan stated that "What is the equivalent of treating without opening wounds in psychiatry? In psychoanalysis, we go back to the person's childhood. Some problems are taken and brought to the present day. The person becomes hostile to their mother and father. When the trauma cannot be resolved, noisier situations may be encountered. In many cases, the period of unnecessary delusion into childhood has passed. The era of physicians who respect people's traumas has begun. Instead of revealing traumas and opening the wound, how can they be treated without opening the wound? This period has emerged."

Stating that the ideal treatment is the treatment without interfering with the traumas of the person, Prof. Tarhan said that the negative is corrected by strengthening the positive.

Dr. Tayyab Rashid, one of the pioneers of positive psychotherapy, will speak tomorrow

Stating that one of the pioneers of positive psychotherapy is Dr. Tayyab Rashid from the University of Melbourne, Tarhan also noted that he will give a speech within the framework of the congress tomorrow.

'Neuroscience-based positive psychotherapy' prepared

Explaining that they conducted a 2-year study on positive psychotherapy and determined a 12-week, 6-hour "Neuroscience-based positive psychotherapy", Tarhan stated that they prepared a neurobiofeedback method for which part of the person's brain can overcome the disease if it is strengthened.

Stating that protocols such as stress management, aggression, autism, attention deficit disorder are created and the person is taught the ability to stay cold-blooded under stress, Tarhan also noted that the person learns to manage their brain.

Stating that the training of trainers on this subject will start in September-October next year, Prof. Tarhan also explained that a new option will be offered for those who want to use positive psychology in therapy, so that there will be a method suitable for our own values, our own thinking habits and our culture.

Students who have taken the course state that this course has touched their souls

Stating that they have developed the scales of benevolence and maliciousness, Tarhan also emphasized the cultural-oriented aspect of positive psychology and noted that the students who took the first course in 2013 stated that this course touched their souls.

Stating that Science of Happiness book, which was published as a supplementary textbook for high school students, would be useful for guidance teachers, Prof. Tarhan explained that this book, which is a guide for high school students to improve themselves, aims to strengthen the positive.

Prof. Nazife Güngör: "While the world is going bad and negative in many ways, we want to slow down the process with positive touches and contribute to its improvement."

Within the scope of the opening speeches, Üsküdar University Rector Prof. Nazife Güngör drew attention to the studies carried out in this field as a university:

"As Üsküdar University, we are happy to touch different subjects, to deal with different aspects of science and to add many different touches to education. This is perhaps our difference. In this context, I evaluate the education we provide within the scope of positive psychology and the scientific activities we are doing. While the world is getting worse and negative in many ways, we want to slow down this process a little with positive touches and contribute to its progression for the better. When we decided on the positive psychology course, we had such a goal. We have positive psychology courses in all departments of our university. We did not stop there, and we also wanted to have a scientific event. On the one hand, we wanted to explain positive psychology to our students in the classrooms, and at the same time, we wanted to have a wide scientific platform on this subject. We have created a scientific discussion environment that started at the national level and then spread at the international level, and we started to host it. We want to make every contribution we can in terms of the course of humanity and the betterment of the world, and we will continue to do so."
