Psychiatrist Prof. Nevzat Tarhan stated that with Ramadan fasting, the hypothalamus region in the brain related to hunger and satiety is disciplined and expressed that "Since hunger occurs for more than ten hours, the body says, 'I am starving' becomes alarmed and starts to renew itself."

Stating that fasting triggers the growth factor in the brain, Prof. Tarhan said that "It whips up brain cells, whips bone marrow cells and makes them renew themselves. The distress caused by Ramadan fasting to the nervous system is the result of this growth. We can call this period a process that contributes to the healthy functioning of our body."

President of Üsküdar University, Psychiatrist Prof. Nevzat Tarhan informed on the effect of Ramadan fasting on the brain.

"Ramadan was an opportunity to deal with seductive emotions"

Stating that Ramadan fasting is a three-dimensional worship, Prof. Nevzat Tarhan expressed that "This is a social, financial and personal worship. If we think about personal worship, there are such feelings in people: misleading and seductive emotions known as nefs-i emmare (the self that enjoys misleading) Emotions that are very raging at this time. The real freedom is not to do what those emotions say, but to be free from those emotions. Those emotions are the general emotions that exist in people such as seduction, deception, fondness for wealth, office, lust for fame, greed, self-interest. Ramadan is an opportunity to deal with these feelings. Since it is a collective worship, it can affect everyone."

"Fasting increases our endurance and endurance"

Noting that fasting provides resilience training to people, Prof. Tarhan said that "Modules are written in positive psychotherapy methods related to endurance training. Resilience training is opportunity training. This period increases one's endurance and endurance. There is a secret law of psychology in life. He gives his reward to those who endure. Fasting also increases our endurance and endurance."

"Children should not get what they want immediately, they should experience the natural result of their behavior"

Stating that the second gain is to strengthen the ability to postpone gratification, Prof. Tarhan said that “Modernism glorified the pursuit of pleasure and released desires. As such, all people have become pleasure-seeking. The typology of people who say break the chains and tear down the walls has become very widespread. In such cases, we recommend teaching parents the ability to delay gratification in children. Let the children not get what they want right away but experience the natural consequence of their behavior. If they do something wrong, let them face the consequences. Let them achieve their wishes by putting an effort. We teach this from childhood, from the beginning of walking."

"The person trains the hypothalamus region in the brain related to hunger and satiety"

Prof. Tarhan also stated that Ramadan fasting disciplines one's soul and strengthens one's will, and concluded his remarks as follows:

"If you fast during the Ramadan without believing, you will suffer a lot and become restless. When we look at our brain from the perspective of neuroscience, when a person believes in Ramadan fasting, the brain develops a program about it and gives a message to the stomach and intestine that 'you will eat in the evening, you have to postpone it', except for the first few days of getting used to it. The person is training the hypothalamus region in the brain related to hunger and satiety.

"It whips up brain cells"

Since hunger occurs for more than ten hours, the body says, 'I am starving’ becomes alarmed and starts to renew itself. It triggers growth factor in the brain, whips up brain cells, whips bone marrow cells and makes itself renew. The distress caused by Ramadan fasting to the nervous system is the result of this growth. We can call this period a process that contributes to the healthy functioning of our body."
