Noting that difficult times call strong people and strong people create comfortable times, Psychiatrist Prof. Nevzat Tarhan said that "When there are comfortable times, weak people emerge. Hard times arise when weak people multiply.”

Prof. Tarhan stated that "What we call conformity is something that is becoming more and more common in Western culture right now, and it is becoming more and more common in our country. You can call it conformity, or you can call it worldliness."

President of Üsküdar University, Psychiatrist Prof. Nevzat Tarhan evaluated the issue of conformity.

Stating that the brain works as it imagines, Prof. Tarhan noted that virtual reality trials are carried out in artificial intelligence studies, and the brain can be taught to imagine and experience that situation.

Stating that there is a purpose of happiness and pleasure in the psychological nature of human beings, Tarhan explained that the first philosophers of antiquity said that what people seek in life is happiness, and that eating, drinking and reproducing like other living things in the world are not enough to make people happy.

Human’s desires and wishes are unlimited; however, their needs are unlimited, and their power is very limited

Stating that people dream and want to be happy in the dream world because they are an abstract and conceptual thinking being, Tarhan said that "Their desires and wishes are unlimited, their needs are unlimited; however, their power is very limited. In one’s dream world, for example, a person wants to go to space."

Noting that people want eternity and happiness to be at the same time, Tarhan continued as follows:

"Man is born, lives, grows and dies. Life is normal. However, one's desire to live, the fire of life, accelerates and becomes more alive when one gets older. The older one gets, the more one wants to live. That's why they are terrifically chasing the fire of youth. There are great projects about postponing death all the time.

The human brain and nature programmed for an eternity that is happy

Just as there is a feeling of hunger in human beings and it is related to the existence of food as a result of a cause-and-effect relationship, the eternity in the soul of man and the endless search for happiness and peace are similar, as well. There is an eternal peace and happiness, and there is a cause-and-effect relationship with the existence of life. A smart person thinks long-term, and a strategic person says that ‘It does not make sense for everything to happen in this world.’ 'There must be a higher world beyond this world, there must be a higher universe, and there must be a reality. There must be an invisible reality.’”

Stating that the research show that all the gains in this world do not satisfy the brain, but that eternity satisfies the brain, Prof. Tarhan said, "Eternity, but a happy eternity. An eternity that is happy. The human brain and nature programmed according to it... If you examine a program in your brain, we can call it a soul program. If you ask ‘What is its purpose, what is its ideal?’, there is a search for this in the ideal of man. That's where conformity comes from."

Conformity should not be confused with conformism

Prof. Nevzat Tarhan stated that conformity and conformism should not be confused, and noted that human beings are a being who wants to get less tired and earn more. The dictionary meaning of conformism is accommodativeness. It refers to obedience, and it is a more positive concept. Conformism, on the other hand, can be defined as conformity, enjoyment, convenience and putting comfort at the center of one's life.

Prof. Tarhan also said that people can ignore their values, personal values and beliefs for their own comfort or expectation. Stating that a person's ability to obey the wrong for their benefit can also be called self-interest, Prof. Tarhan said that "This is conformity, you are warning for benefit. You say yes to everything. A significant number of such people return immediately when power changes hands. There is a lot of hypocrisy in these people, a tendency to act depending on the authority. To be on the side of the strong is to act close to the strong."

What we call conformism is something that is now becoming more and more common in western culture

Prof. Nevzat Tarhan concluded his remarks as follows: "What we call conformity is something that's becoming more and more common in Western culture right now, and it is becoming more and more common in our country. It can be called conformity, or it can be called worldliness. One does not want to move their arm or feet for their own comfort and pleasure. If you ask, 'What is the purpose of life?’, they will say: 'It is to live comfortably', and the meaning of social responsibilities, the interests of others, and the empathetic view emerges. This is actually not a very surprising thing. If such a child or person is not given a good education, if one has obtained everything easily, a person is expected to be like this.

People who did not suffer for high values have multiplied to the present day

Difficult times call for strong people. Strong people also make comfortable times. And when there are comfortable times, weak people appear. Hard times arise when weak people multiply. When comfort multiplies, weak people will appear. When we look at today, there are people who do not struggle, who do not seek their rights, who do not suffer for themselves, for others, who do not suffer for high values have multiplied. When they have a small interest, they can easily sell their value immediately, they can sell their value for profit. We can say that there is this tendency in human beings; however, human beings need to question this tendency and try to control this tendency."
