Prof. Nesrin Erçelen: “We are in the top 10 in the world!”
Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine Department of Medical Genetics faculty member Prof. Nesrin Erçelen was among the top 10 in the world with her work during the Covid. Erçelen's studies at Üsküdar University also contribute significantly to the literature.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, we have encountered a systemic infection that is unique so far, paralyzing our immune system. While none of the drugs we have, work for treatment, Medical Genetic Specialist Prof. Nesrin Erçelen and her team used treatments based on newly developed cellular systems, technology and biotechnology, which were quickly approved by both legal and ethical processes. Thanks to these special treatment protocols, many people were saved and brought back to life.
One of the 10 centers…
Around 1262 stem cell treatment studies have been published around the world during the Covid-19 pandemic. In an important meta-analysis study to scientifically evaluate the success of the treatment, scientists found the clinical Covid-19 study conducted by only 10 centers out of these 1262 publications suitable for the meta-analysis criteria. Prof. Nesrin Erçelen and her team with their work have taken their place in the literature as one of these 10 centers in the world after 4 China, 1 Germany, 1 United States of America, 1 United Arab Emirates (UAE) and 1 Russia.
Medical Geneticist Prof. Nesrin Erçelen gave the following information about her works that entered the literature:
Prof. Nesrin Erçelen: “We treated one third of the patients”
“Our work was accepted as it was in the meta-analysis in terms of its benefit, mode of operation and protocol. After China, Germany, the UAE, the USA and Russia, it took its place in the literature as one of these 10 centers in the world. Subsequently, the results of 210 patients who were treated and followed up and published in 2020-2021 were evaluated in another meta-analysis. It was a meta-analysis by the Mayo Clinic. In this analysis, it was shown that diseases and deaths were significantly reduced as a result of mesenchymal stem cell (medicinal signaling cell) therapy in 736 patients with Covid-19-induced acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in 34 studies conducted in the same period in accordance with the scientific evaluation conducted in the world. Among the 736 patients presented in the study, 210 patients we treated and followed up in 2020-2021 belong to Erçelen et al. In other words, during this period, we treated one-third of the patients in the studies that met the scientific evaluation criteria. As a result of both meta-analysis, mesenchymal stem cell therapy significantly reduced the deaths caused by Covid-19 and the findings caused by the disease. It has shown that it supports lung function and has the potential to be a safe new form of treatment. Moreover, we have shown that the stem cell treatments obtained from another donor, which we use during the treatments, can also provide hope in other systemic diseases. This new version of biological drugs is personalized and prepared with stem cells. According to the information in the literature, it was applied according to the patient's condition in the form of a single or several sessions with the protocols we developed. We contributed to the recovery of some intubated patients, the recovery of some patients from the intensive care unit and the recovery of some patients with clots and paralysis. We are very proud and contented. These scientific results shed light on and accelerated medical studies in other centers around the world.”
