Promotion meeting was held for the book titled “Fundamentals of Chemical Reaction Engineering”

A launching meeting was held for the promotion of the book titled “Fundamentals of Chemical Reaction Engineering” written by Üsküdar University Advisor to Rector, Head of Department of Chemical Engineering (English) Prof. Selahattin Gültekin. Engineering and Natural Sciences Faculty instructors and students participated in the event at Main Campus Kuleli Hall. The book especially appeals to especially graduate students within the scope of Chemical Reaction Engineering (CRE) course and it stands out with its Turkish and English language options. The CRE course book is estimated to fill an important gap in its field and it was published by Üsküdar University Publishing.

Prof. Dr. Selahattin Gültekin: “Kitabı şahsına mahsus bir kitap gibi görüyorum”

Advisor to Rector, Head of Chemical Engineering (English) Prof. Selahattin Gültekin made his remarks at the launching meeting of his book. Gültekin underlined that the book is an original piece in its field and Gültekin said: “Now, we also put Turkish books aside. The book I will write is the most important book in the field of chemical engineering. That is, as a course book, Reaction Engineering.  Our experience also showed us that there are Turkish education and English education here, in our university. There are Turkish students and international students from Middle East. Therefore, I thought if I can write a book that will meet the needs of both parties. My doctorate subject is chemical reaction engineering. So, I have said let’s write such book that there will be no issues in translation. Thus, I teach the courses in English, in aboard. That’s normal actually. I taught it in Türkiye, too. I thought that I shall write a book in chemical reaction engineering and medicine. We started, I have started in Kyrgyzstan. It is a very tranquil place. A peaceful place. No one would talk behind someone else. Instead of talking, there would be scientific discussions. There was, there was a peaceful mind. We have started this there and this book now you are holding and seeing was realized after making the last touch ups. Feedback I have received so far from publishers and some of my colleagues are quite positive because I, personally, have seen such book. I have not seen a book both in English and Turkish by the same author. That is, it is a unique thing.  I see a book as one of its kind.  Since I see this one like that, there will be works after this, for example, there will be some other books too. There is currently a book we call as mathematical modelling. Its English and Turkish versions in the same format. Our President of Üsküdar University Prof. Nevzat Tarhan wrote the foreword for this book. He also wanted that such books must be written and presented to students. Now, this is what we pursue. Of course, our Dean’s presence here made me very happy. As you know, I was the founding dean of the engineering faculty. We transfer our experience as much as we can, however, I cannot tell if you accept or not. Our esteemed Prof. Tunç Çatal is very hardworking colleague that we love a lot. I love professor Murat a lot, we appreciate him a lot. Today, they did not leave me alone. I thank each of them a lot. There are also our other fellows and our students at back, too.”.

Prof. Osman Çerezci: “It is really challenging to write technical books”

Dean of Engineering and Natural Sciences Faculty Prof. Osman Çerezci made his remarks of writing process of new work by Prof. Selahattin Gültekin in the launching meeting. Prof. Osman Çerezci pointed out challenges of writing a technical book and underlined that the Deanship of Üsküdar University always supports these works. Çerezci said: “Firstly, congratulations and of course, I am one of the first ones who congratulated. Professor Gültekin asked for permission from us to carry out this work. My personal opinion was not positive because there is a sufficiency in terms of books. Of course, Turkish students are quite adjusted to English. However, our professor explained it later and I examined the fascicules of his studies. He first needed to get permission from the deanship for a study like this. We gave that permission. Our professor is so determined and created an excellent work. Üsküdar University always encourages for such studies and works. It is great to organize a meeting like this, as well.  We can gather together for the next works, as well. As Professor Gültekin mentioned, it is really challenging to write technical books like this. Formulas and such require great work and Labour. As you can imagine, research assistants also support significantly on this matter. As department Chemical Engineering, we congratulate especially our professor Gültekin and those who contributed to this work. Well of course, we accept more.  If there is a series for other books, our country will be in a good place in education, that is, it will be original. I wrote also 6 books; therefore, I personally know how challenging it can be.”.
