Üsküdar University and NPİSTANBUL Hospital represented Türkiye at the G20 Neuroscience20 (BRAIN-SPINE-MENTAL HEALTH) Summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in cooperation with the US-based Brain Mapping and Therapeutics Association (SBMT). At the summit held on November 16-17, 2024, President of Üsküdar University Prof. Nevzat Tarhan shared his studies carried out at the university and NPİSTANBUL Hospital with participants from more than 20 different countries.
N20 platform fosters interdisciplinary collaboration
The G20's Neuroscience20 (N20) summit focuses on the potential of neuroscience and big data-driven approaches to shape the future. Big data analytics in neuroscience offers unique opportunities to better understand complex processes in the brain, enable early diagnosis of neurological diseases, and develop individualized treatment methods. In this context, artificial intelligence algorithms and machine learning models play a critical role in processing, analyzing, and making sense of neural data sets. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, the N20 platform aims to make progress on key issues such as data sharing and standardization, as well as the creation of ethical frameworks.
Prof. Nevzat Tarhan drew attention to the importance of artificial intelligence and big data in health sciences
At the summit held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil between November 16-17, 2024, Prof. Nevzat Tarhan explained the application of big data in the field of health sciences with the "Role of Technology in Clinical Neuroscience Across the G20 Healthcare" and shared the correct practices in this field regarding the applications at NPİSTANBUL Hospital and Üsküdar University, project and university-industry harmony.
It is also aimed to reduce medical errors...
Prof. Nevzat Tarhan drew attention to the importance of artificial intelligence and big data in health sciences and emphasized that these technologies play a critical role in reducing medical errors and personalized treatment approaches.
Neuroimaging data collected for 26 years are used in the preliminary diagnosis of psychiatric disorders
Explaining that with the addition of the "Artificial Intelligence and Data Science for Health Innovation" course to the curriculum of medical faculty students at Üsküdar University, it is aimed for physician candidates to gain competence in artificial intelligence and big data analytics, Prof. Nevzat Tarhan continued his remarks as follows:
Artificial intelligence eliminates the need for the wisdom of the physician...
"Artificial intelligence algorithms are used effectively in the preliminary diagnosis of different psychiatric diseases with the BraiNP/NP Model, which was developed by analyzing neuroimaging data collected at NPİSTANBUL Hospital for 26 years. Artificial intelligence technologies eliminate the need for physician wisdom."
New generation technologies used in treatment were explained
Tarhan noted that studies in this field will increase the quality of health services, and with new generation quantum computing and neuromorphic computing methods, years of drug modeling or treatment follow-up processes will be modeled with high accuracy within seconds. Stating that the pioneering studies carried out within NP in this regard are also exciting, Prof. Nevzat Tarhan also talked about the effective results of TMU treatments (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) used in different diseases, especially at NPİSTANBUL Hospital, as well as the new generation photobiomodulation technologies used in the hospital.
New capital is 'Data'
Prof. Nevzat Tarhan stated that the new capital for the next period is "data" and it was correctly linked the university's fields such as molecular biology, bioengineering, medicine, computer engineering and software engineering.
The data-driven process has started in the patient treatment and follow-up process...
In his speech, Member of the Board of Directors of NPİSTANBUL Hospital and Üsküdar University M. Fırat Tarhan stated that the use of big data in health management and hospital systems offers great opportunities to increase the quality of patient care and optimize operational processes. Fırat Tarhan said that in-depth analysis of patient data allows more effective results in chronic disease management.
Stating that big data-based approaches have triggered a revolution that both increases patient satisfaction and makes health systems more sustainable, Fırat Tarhan underlined that they carry out a data-driven treatment and follow-up process within NPİSTANBUL.
Facial expression recognition model...
Üsküdar University Vice Rector Prof. Türker Tekin Ergüzel, on the other hand, addressed the potential of initiatives such as the ME+ Brain Initiative, which was built under the umbrella of SBMT, to carry local development to regional development and global development, while facial expression recognition emerged from big data-oriented studies and NP Model application that have been carried out at the university for many years, deep learning-oriented clinical applications and university-hospital cooperation, He talked about diagnostic, prognostic and predictive models.
Neuromorphic computers
Prof. Türker Tekin Ergüzel emphasized innovative approaches in the field of neuroscience by focusing on big data, biomarkers and neuromorphic computers at the N20 Summit, and Prof. Ergüzel noted that 1 unit investment invested in big data analytics will return as 250 units in 2 years.
Stating that it plays a critical role in the early diagnosis of neurological diseases and the development of personalized treatment plans, Prof. Türker Tekin Ergüzel expressed that "The detection of biomarkers improves the diagnosis and treatment processes by providing an understanding of diseases at the molecular level. Neuromorphic computers, on the other hand, offer highly efficient and energy-efficient computing opportunities in neuroscience research with their structures that mimic the functioning of the human brain. The integration of these technologies allows for more in-depth analyses in neuroscience research and more effective management of neurological diseases."
