Üsküdar University takes a new step in the fight against addiction!

Üsküdar University established the Fight Against Addiction Coordination Unit to carry out more effective studies in the fight against addiction. The Coordination Unit was divided into two main boards as Scientific Committee and Executive Committee. The Scientific Committee will work on developing a strategy, creating a policy and preparing an action plan in the fight against addiction. The Executive Board will also organize relevant projects by forming sub-commissions in the field of fighting against addiction.

What are the duties and responsibilities of the unit?

The Fight Against Addiction Coordination Unit aims to protect public health and contribute to the fight against addiction. Among the main objectives of the Coordination Unit are to establish policies to combat addiction and to take measures against elements that threaten public health. Within the scope of the fight against addiction, preventive studies will be focused on many areas such as technology, games, gambling, alcohol, tobacco and substance addiction.

The Coordination Unit will work in two main committees

The Coordination Unit was divided into two main boards as Scientific Committee and Executive Committee. The Scientific Committee, which was formed under the chairmanship of President of Üsküdar University, Psychiatrist Prof. Nevzat Tarhan, will work on developing a strategy, creating a policy and preparing an action plan in the fight against addiction. This committee will consist of faculty members who are experts in the field of addiction and will develop national and international collaborations and inform the management of their annual work plans.

The Executive Board will organize the projects

The Executive Board, chaired by Prof. Sevil Atasoy, will convene under the chairmanship of the rector or a vice rector appointed by the rector. This committee will prepare scientific and administrative plans in accordance with the objectives set by the Scientific Committee and will undertake the task of directing the applications. Moreover, the Executive Board will organize related projects by forming sub-commissions in the field of combating addiction.

In the meantime, Üsküdar University Fight Against Addiction Coordination Unit Working Directive has been published. This directive entered into force with the decision of the Senate dated October 24, 2024.
