The elderly are getting lonely...

Instructor Büşra Kul stated that "The increasing elderly population also reveals many problems that need to be solved. Increasingly, the deterioration of the traditional structure and the return to the nuclear family also leads to the problem of the elderly being alone. The physiological and psychological changes brought about by aging and the difficulty of the elderly to stay with their families increase the need for care. The prolongation of life expectancy and the increase in the care needs of the elderly reveal the need for professional elderly care technicians who will carry out one-to-one care services in the application dimension."

Projects for elderly health should be planned

Noting that the increase in the elderly population makes it difficult to cope with many chronic diseases that occur in the elderly, Kul expressed that "Chronic diseases cause serious problems by affecting not only the elderly, but also the family of the elderly and the society. Therefore, considering the chronic diseases of the elderly in our country and in the world, all the physical, mental and social needs of the elderly should be evaluated and nursing homes, nursing homes (day or boarding) and elderly clubs where these needs will be met should be increased. Even today, this situation will increase rapidly with the increase in the elderly population while there are deficiencies in meeting the demand for old age services. Therefore, it is extremely important to plan and implement projects for elderly health."

People who will work in the field of elderly care should know about chronic diseases!

At the same time, all care practices that will enable the elderly patient to continue their everyday living activities should be learned in the finest detail in a theoretical and practical way. They should reinforce this knowledge by applying it under the supervision of the responsible health professional in the nursing home. Thanks to the education they received, they should know the needs of the elderly, plan their care by taking into account their habits, inform the patient and their family, perform everyday living activities with the patient, ensure the tidiness of the room and help the patient with all kinds of activities that he cannot perform independently.

They must have at least an associate degree!

Stating that professionals who will work in the field of old age services should have at least an associate degree, Instructor Büşra Kul concluded her remarks as follows: "I think that e-certificate programs should be taken according to the need after the diploma, and that people who do not have an associate degree diploma should not be able to work in the field of health as elderly care technicians with these certificates.
