A new laboratory was opened for the students of Üsküdar University, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. There are various training sets in the laboratory, which enables students to receive a higher quality education and aims to make learning permanent by putting theoretical knowledge into practice. Thanks to the training sets in the 'Power and Machines Laboratory', the content of the courses is strengthened, and students have the opportunity to work in the laboratory.

President of Üsküdar University Prof. Nevzat Tarhan, who visited the Power and Machines laboratory, received information about the laboratory and training sets from Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Prof. Selim Şeker and Research Assistant Nazmiye Kopacak.

Research Assistant Nazmiye Kopacak: "We aimed for students to experience all systems"

Üsküdar University, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Research Assistant Nazmiye Kopacak stated that "We wanted to establish a laboratory to meet the needs of both the industry and our students. We thought about what we can do together with the existing companies in the sector. Then we decided on our training kits. We aimed for students to be able to experience all the systems..."

"We are starting to use the laboratory in potential graduate studies"

Talking about the content of the training sets in the laboratory, Kopacak expressed that "In this context, 'Electrical Machines Training Set', 'Renewable Energy Training Set', 'Transmission Line Training Set' and 'Power Electronics Training Set' are available in our laboratory. Especially, we have courses called 'Power Systems', 'Distribution Systems' and 'Electromechanical Energy Conversion', which are in the category of elective courses in our curriculum. To strengthen the content of these courses, we, together with Asst. Prof. Hamza Abunima, opened this laboratory for operation. In the spring semester of the 2023-2024 academic year, this laboratory was actively opened to our students and senior students who are doing their graduation thesis. We are starting to use this lab for potential graduate studies of our current students. In the next days, potential cooperation can be established under the roof of the continuing education center with industry professionals or professionals who do not take this course and want to improve themselves, as well as students who want to improve academically."

"We aim to increase the number of courses in the elective courses category"

Emphasizing that elective courses can increase thanks to the Power and Machines Laboratory, Research Assistant Nazmiye Kopacak stated that "Another important feature of this laboratory is that students who want to work in facilities of 1 kV and above under the electrical and electronics sector must obtain a certificate of authorization from the Chamber of Electrical Engineers. For them to receive this authorization certificate, the Chamber of Electrical Engineers examines the transcripts of the students and checks whether the basic courses have been taken. After seeing at least three of these courses on the student's transcript, electrical engineers enroll in this authorization training. This document is a document that we can provide freelance consultancy engineering services. They can provide services in this field in the sector. They can provide project, measurement, consultancy and engineering and consultancy services. In this context, of course, we aim to increase the number of courses in the elective courses category in the next years."

The existence of a laboratory is very important for the development of the country

Kopacak thanked everyone who supported the opening process of the laboratory and stated that "We would like to thank President of Üsküdar University Prof. Nevzat Tarhan, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences Prof. Osman Çerezci, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Prof. Selim Şeker. I would like to thank Asst. Prof. Hamza Abunima for all the financial and moral support they have offered us. Believe me, the existence of a laboratory is very important not only for the student, but also for the development of instructors, the university and the country in pursuit of this. It is of great importance in long-term promotional activities, in the prestige of our university, and in the creation of potential business opportunities in the sector. We have a small inventory in a small area; however, we have created an environment where we share the core lessons with our students and share all the content that they can meet in the industry. In this context, I would like to thank all our academic and administrative staff again."
