Prof. Hikmet Koçak: "In addition to the physical aspect, there is also a spiritual aspect in health"

Vice Rector Prof. Hikmet Koçak made the opening speeches at the symposium. Koçak stated that "When I look at it as a cardiovascular surgeon, we know that the physical aspect of our body is not alone in terms of health; however, there is also a mental aspect. In fact, we see it and act as such. In addition to our physical treatments, we also have other treatment methods. It is like music therapy. They are the experts of this business, and I thank them here."

Prof. Arif Aktuğ Ertekin: "Music is one of the most important concepts that bring humanity together"

Ertekin continued his remarks as follows: "Music is one of the most important concepts that bring humanity together. There are people who publish scientific studies, there are cultures. We must protect our culture and values. At this point, young people have a big job. Work, produce, and research."

Prof. Haydar Sur: "Music therapy is one of the oldest practices in human history"

Making the opening speech of the event, Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Haydar Sur stated that "Perhaps one of the oldest practices in human history is music therapy. When we look at encyclopedias, it is a practice that was recorded in the 1950s. It is necessary to look for the roots of the success of the Seljuks and Ottomans in systematizing this issue in Samarkand, in Bukhara. Our ancestors did these practices properly. When they burned people because 'the devil is inside of them,' we comforted people by giving them music and healing."

Prof. Sevda Asqarova: "We aim to raise awareness of treatment with music"

Üsküdar University Faculty of Health Sciences Head of Occupational Therapy Department and Director of MÜTEM Prof. Sevda Asqarova stated that "The 'Harmony of Healing' Music Therapy Symposium is a platform where experts, researchers, practitioners and all relevant stakeholders working in this field can gather to exchange information, discuss new developments, and increase the awareness of music therapy. In scientific studies on Music Therapy, attention should be paid to some main points such as networking and cooperation, innovation and social awareness, which are important in professional development. It is very important that symposiums are a platform for people working in this field to share their knowledge and experiences, and that academics, clinicians and other relevant professionals gather to strengthen relationships and develop future projects, research or applications. It allows participants to learn new skills, gain up-to-date knowledge, and support their professional development. In this context, it increases the practical skills of the participants and expands their expertise in their fields through various workshops, seminars and conferences. The platforms provided for researchers to present their latest findings and share them with other colleagues also contribute to the emergence of new discoveries and innovations. It helps us to learn more about the effectiveness and scope of Music Therapy. Moreover, the 'Harmony of Healing Music Therapy Symposium' aims to raise social awareness about the benefits of Music Therapy, as well as to inform the public about how music can be used to improve the quality of life of people in various health and welfare conditions and shows the importance of the field with all science."

Prof. Levent Öztürk: "We became the first certified music therapists in the history of the republic"

The chair of the 1st session of the symposium, Trakya University Faculty of Medicine Prof. Levent Öztürk shared his presentation titled "Music Therapy New Customs for the Old Village" with the participants. Öztürk stated that "Since the 2000s, a trend about music therapy has started in Türkiye. A trend of music therapy has emerged. We joined that trend, as well. Music therapy began to be studied in the scientific field. Concerts were held. The purpose of these concerts was to provide information about treatment in music. We tried to explain this by conducting media studies. With all this wind came legal regulations. The Ministry of Health has added music therapy to the law. Thanks to these applications, we got ahead. It turned out in research on this. We became the first certified music therapists in the history of the republic. My main work is sleep studies. I tried to find out how music therapy works in sleep studies. This was the first time that this had been discussed in the literature. In Türkiye, our physician friends are divided, some of them say, 'Modern medicine kills in all healing practices,' and some of them say, 'All of these are nonsense, you should follow modern medicine.' Medicine, which is called modern medicine today, did not fall from the sky. This is the accumulation of 5 thousand years of human history. Over time, we have seen the ones that work. We let down the ones that did not work. Today, we should not make a distinction between modern medicine and traditional medicine. We need to understand that these two are together and we need to think about how to take advantage of it."
