SOCRATES BC. 469 - BC. 399

SOCRATES

Socrates was born in Athens in BC 496. He was one of the founders of Ancient Greek Philosophy. Socrates, known for his humble and philosophical endeavors, had a strong influence on Greek youth, especially Plato. In addition to his lessons on mathematics, geometry, astronomy and politics, Socrates, whose basic worldview was “I know that I know nothing”, gave philosophy trainings with questions such as the meaning of life, what is good, what should be the real purpose of human. In BC. 399, he was accused of trying to bring new gods. He faced trial and was sentenced to death by poison. He denied the charges as well as the fleeing offers. His student Plato followed the trial. He published his defense at the trial and his works. Therefore, his ideas have survived to this day.
