Mahmut SADIK

He was a journalist and author.
He was born in İstanbul in 1864. He completed his secondary education at Mekteb-i Sultanî and his higher education at Mekteb-i Mülkiye. He was sent to Germany to study agriculture. After staying in Berlin for a year, he returned to Türkiye and worked in the civil service for a short time.

Mahmut Sadık, who left the civil service and started to work as a journalist, worked for many years in Ceride-i Havadis, Tarık, Sabah, Saadet, İkdam, Tercüman-ı Hakikat newspapers and Servet-i Fünun magazine. He made a great contribution to the development of Turkish journalism with his translations. In some of his writings, he used the names "Osman Galip" and "Kadri".

He went to Jerusalem and stayed there for a while. He returned home in 1903 and continued to work as a journalist. He was in Vienna as a correspondent for Sabah newspaper during the Balkan War. For a while, he was appointed as the Chief of Publications of the Anatolian-Baghdad Railway Administration. He was the responsible editor-in-chief of the magazines “Demiryolları” and “Uyanış-Servet-i Fünun”. He also taught Turkish, accounting, history, French, economic geography, and procedural finance. After the Second Constitutional Monarchy, he wrote anecdotes and political humor articles in Yeni Gazete.

In 1917, he was elected President of the Matbuat Cemiyeti. Mahmut Sadik, who was given the title of Şeyhül Muharririn and is one of the most respected journalists, made great efforts to raise awareness, especially among young people. He died in İstanbul in 1930.
