İsmail ÇİFTER

He completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Kütahya and graduated from Kütahya High School in 1946. He completed his higher education at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine between 1946 and 1952. He became a medical doctor on September 12, 1952. After completing his internship at Gülhane Military Hospital, he completed his continental service as a military physician between 1953-1957. In 1957, he started his specialty education at the Mental Diseases Clinic of Gülhane Military Medical Academy. On June 15, 1960, he became a specialist in Mental and Neurological Diseases. As a specialist in mental and neurological diseases, he worked in Kayseri 5th District between 1960-1961. Between 1961-1964, he worked at the Erzurum 1000-bed Marshal Fevzi Çakmak Military Hospital at the Domestic Regional Command Military Hospital.

During this duty, he passed the Turkish Armed Forces language and vocational exams and was sent to the USA for 33 weeks to the Army Medical Service Staff Officer Course Advanced. During the course period, he worked under Dr. Latter, who was the head of the psychiatry department at the 4th Army Hospital Brook General Hospital. On November 8, 1965, he passed the associate professorship exam and became an associate professor at the university. In 1973, he was promoted to the position of professor of psychiatry clinic at GATA by the senate of Ankara University. He worked as a clinic chief at GATA for many years. After his retirement on September 2, 1983, he founded the Department of Psychiatry at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine and served as the clinical chief of this department for a long time. He established two sleep centers (one at GATA and the other at Gazi University) and a 25-bed alcohol treatment unit equipped with the necessary staff and equipment.
