Hüseyin Cahit YALÇIN 1875-1957
He is a Turkish journalist, author, translator and politician.
He was born in Balıkesir in 1875. He completed his primary education in İstanbul and his secondary education in Serez at the Military High School.
In 1889, he enrolled in istanbul Dersaadet İdadi Mülkiyesi. His interest in literature began during his student years.
Hüseyin Cahit, who started his literary life by writing stories, novels, and prose poems, published his first novel called "Hayal İçinde" in 1891.
After completing his high school education, he received higher education at Mekteb-i Mülkiye in İstanbul between 1893-1896.
In the last year of school, he started journalism by publishing the magazine "Mektep" with a few friends.
He has published works in the fields of journalism, criticism, and translation. Hüseyin Cahit, who later joined the Edebiyat-ı Cedide Society, continued his journalism career with his stories published in Servet-i Fünun magazine, his articles on art, as well as his articles in newspapers such as Mütalaa, Tarık, Sabah and Saadet.
The artist, who was one of the important names of Edebiyat-ı Cedide, published the Tanin newspaper after the Constitutional Monarchy and started his political life.
In 1896, he completed his higher education with the second place. After working at the Ministry of Education Mektub-i Kalem for a while, he worked as a Turkish and French teacher and administrator at Vefa and Mercan High Schools since 1897.
In 1899, his first book of short stories, Hayat-ı Muhayyel, was published. Hüseyin Cahit Yalçın, who was elected to the Ottoman parliament in 1908, is the first journalist deputy in our history. The artist, who translated some novels and stories from French and Italian literature, published his scientific works on various subjects under the title of "Oğlumun Kütüphanesi" (My Son’s Library). He died in İstanbul in 1957.
