Hulusi BEHÇET

In 1937, he became the first scientist to describe Behçet's disease, a disease of blood vessel inflammation (vasculitis), which is now named after him. He studied medicine at Gülhane Military Medical Academy. After his graduation in 1910, he specialized in dermatology and sexually transmitted diseases for four years. During World War I, he worked as a dermatology and venereal disease specialist at the military hospital in Edirne. After the war, he went to Budapest and then to Berlin to improve his medical knowledge. After returning to Turkey began a freelance career. First, he became chief physician in Hasköy Sexual Diseases Hospital. Then he worked at Vakıf Gureba Hospital. At that time, he was a professor at the hospital, which was part of the Istanbul Medical School.
