English Nurse. She was the founder of modern nursing.
In 1854, she carried out the treatment and care of wounded British soldiers during the Crimean War in the Selimiye Barracks. The soldiers called her The Lady with the Lamp because she looked after the wounded in difficult conditions of the war. After the war, she opened a nursing school in London. In 1907, she became the first woman to receive the Order of Merit. Her birthday is celebrated on May 12th as World Nurses Day.
