Ali Naci KARACAN 1896-1955
He is a Turkish journalist and author. He received his primary school education at the French Ererler School. Then, he started Galatasaray High School. His first articles, which he wrote during his high school years, were published in Servet-i Fünûn and Rübâb magazines. After his graduation, he worked for Tasvir-i Efkar newspaper for three years.
Later, he moved to İkdam. He became the editor-in-chief of Vakit. He participated in World War I as a translator.
During the armistice period, he was one of the founders of the Akşam newspaper. He went to Switzerland because of the Treaty of Lausanne. He was among the Turkish journalists who covered the Lausanne Peace Conference, and 20 years later, he presented his memories of this period to the younger generations in his book Lausanne. He published the newspapers İkdam, Tan, Politika, İnkılap, and Bugün. After these newspapers closed, he founded the newspaper Tan in 1935. In 1936, he left Tan and became the representative of Anadolu Agency. Between 1936 and 1948, he served as the Bulgarian Representative of Anadolu Agency and the Swiss Press Attache. He founded the newspaper Milliyet in 1950 and died of a heart attack on July 7, 1955. Established in memory of Ali Naci Karacan, the Karacan Armağanı (Karacan Gift) has been given in a different branch every year since 1962.
