Ahmet KABAKLI 1924 – 2001
He is a Turkish journalist, author, and literary historian.
He was born in Elazığ in 1924. He completed his primary, secondary and high school education in the same province. He graduated from İstanbul University, Faculty of Letters, Department of Turkish Language and Literature in 1948. He started his teaching career in Diyarbakır. He was sent to Paris for a year by the Ministry of Education to do an educational internship. After his return, he was appointed as a teacher at İstanbul Çapa Education Institute. In the meantime, he graduated from Ankara Faculty of Law (1955-1960) and worked as a lawyer for a short time.
He started his writing career in 1946 with a review article he wrote in the newspaper Son Saat. Later, his criticism articles were published in Hareket magazine under the title of "Hercümerci of the Month", political satire and analysis were published in Bizim Türkiye magazine, and poems, essays and criticisms were published in Hisar and İstanbul magazines. After 1956, he started to write daily articles in the Tercüman newspaper under the title "Gün Işığında". Between 1991 and 2000, he wrote articles for Türkiye newspaper.
Ahmet Kabakli, who served Turkish literature, served as the president of the Turkish Literature Society, of which he was one of the founders in 1970. In 1972, he started to publish the Turkish Literature magazine within the same society. He pioneered the establishment of the Turkish Literature Foundation in 1978 and served as its president until the end of his life.
In addition to his work on Turkish Literature, which consists of 5 volumes, many of his works have been published, especially Edebiyat Tarihi, Temellerin Duruşması, Kültür Emperyalizmi, Edebiyat Akımlar, Ahmet Kabakli, who received the title of Şeyhü’l muharririn, passed away on February 8, 2001.
