In cooperation with Üsküdar University Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Audiology and Üsküdar Municipality, a "Hearing Screening Event" was organized within the scope of March 3, World Hearing Day. Within the scope of the event, which was met with interest, a hearing test was performed. In addition to raising awareness about hearing health, awareness-raising activities were carried out for early diagnosis and prevention of hearing loss.

The event, which took place in Üsküdar Square, was attended by Üsküdar University Faculty of Health Sciences Head of Audiology Department Asst. Prof. Didem Şahin, Instructor Yeter Saçlı, Instructor Gökçe Gültekin and the students of the department.

Asst. Prof. Didem Şahin: "Our aim is to create social awareness"

Speaking at the event, Head of the Department of Audiology Asst. Prof. Member Didem Şahin stated that the aim of the event was to raise social awareness. Şahin stated that "Our main goal in this event is to prevent hearing loss, as well as to identify individuals with hearing loss and refer them to appropriate centers for the necessary examinations."

"The use of headphones at a younger age significantly increases the risk of hearing loss"

Emphasizing that hearing loss can occur in different age groups, Dr. Şahin said that "Three out of a thousand births are born with hearing loss. We can perform hearing evaluations even on 24-hour-old babies. In addition to cases that can be detected immediately after birth, some genetic factors or diseases such as middle ear problems can cause hearing loss in childhood. In addition, today, the habit of listening to loud music and watching movies with headphones is increasing among children and young people. The decrease in the average age of headphone use significantly increases the risk of hearing loss. Already in the mid-30s, age-related hearing loss begins. Therefore, hearing problems can be seen in a wide range from newborns to elderly individuals."

"We are trying to break the prejudice against hearing aids"

Pointing out that hearing aids are not used enough due to aesthetic concerns, Dr. Şahin said that "Since hearing loss is an invisible disability, the necessary precautions and treatments are disrupted and neglected. Those who do not neglect it refuse to use hearing aids due to aesthetic concerns. However, these devices should be considered as glasses. With this awareness project, we are trying to identify individuals with hearing loss, to convey healthy hearing protection methods and to break the prejudice against hearing aids."

At the event, which was organized in cooperation with Üsküdar University and Üsküdar Municipality, awareness was raised about hearing health.

In addition, important information was given about the early diagnosis and prevention of hearing loss.

In the event, which attracted great attention, hearing screening was performed for different age groups.
