Şile’s Prospective Students Listened to Professions from Üsküdar Academicians

The "Career Presentations" event, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education, Şile District Governorate, Şile District Directorate of National Education, and Üsküdar University, attracted great interest from students. The event was attended by Şile District Governor Mehmet Nebi Kaya, Şile District Director of National Education Dursun Teyran, and academics from Üsküdar University. In addition to answering prospective students' questions, information was also provided about the Science and Idea Festival, which will be held for the 10th time this year.

The program, organized by Üsküdar University's Educational Institutions and Guidance Services for prospective students, took place at Şile Ayet Azer Aran Defense Industry Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School.

The opening speeches of the event were delivered by Şile District Governor Mehmet Nebi Kaya, Şile District Director of National Education Dursun Teyran, and Üsküdar University Vice Rector Prof. Türker Tekin Ergüzel.

Şile District Governor Mehmet Nebi Kaya: "This organization will guide you in choosing the right field"

Şile District Governor Mehmet Nebi Kaya met with prospective students and emphasized key points about career selection. Kaya stated that "We have many friends with wonderful careers, whether in medicine, engineering, or other fields. However, if a person lacks love and passion for their chosen profession, no matter how successful or well-established they become, they won’t find true happiness or peace. That is why I believe the greatest benefit of this event is guiding you in choosing the right field, and I strongly encourage you to take full advantage of it."

Şile District Director of National Education Dursun Teyran gave advice to students

Later, Şile District Director of National Education Dursun Teyran provided students with valuable advice and emphasized the importance of the event, expressing gratitude to those who contributed to the organization.

Prof. Türker Tekin Ergüzel: "We should guide our children toward what machines cannot do."

Üsküdar University Vice Rector Prof. Türker Tekin Ergüzel discussed how high-tech advancements impact career choices.
"It is not meaningful to compete with high-tech products. Instead, our education systems and models should focus on equipping students with soft skills that these devices cannot perform. We need to develop more unique skills. Knowledge alone does not teach us this. Therefore, we should direct our children toward sports, music, arts, or areas where machines are not capable. If machines are doing things better than we are, we need to stop and think. Our education system must entirely focus on these soft skills."

Following the opening speeches, the first session of the event began.

Prof. Tuğrul Tansuğ: "You should not only be practicing doctors but also inventors."

Prof. Tuğrul Tansuğ, Head of the General Surgery Department at Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine, provided information about medical education to prospective students. Tansuğ stated that "I always tell those studying or planning to study medicine: 'If you truly understand people, you also learn to trust them.' Even if you do not feel that you would die or fall apart if you don’t become a doctor, I still recommend pursuing this path. However, you should not be just practicing doctors like in the past; you should also be inventors."

Asst. Prof. Kristin Benli: "What we look for in software is identifying a need…"

Asst. Prof. Kristin Benli from the Software Engineering Department of Üsküdar University's Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences answered students' questions about the field. Benli stated that "In Software Engineering, we have a cycle. Initially, as software developers, we often think about inventing something. However, what we truly need is to identify a necessity. You already use many existing systems, but they may have shortcomings. We don’t always expect you to create something from scratch; you can also enhance what already exists by adding new features."

Prof. Ahmet Konrot: "You cannot become a Speech and Language Therapist without practical application."

Prof. Ahmet Konrot, Head of the Speech and Language Therapy Department at Üsküdar University Faculty of Health Sciences, introduced the program to students and provided guiding insights. Konrot stated that "There are five essential pillars of Speech and Language Therapy education. First, you must have knowledge of clinical sciences; what is the human body, and how does it function? Second, how does this body behave and express itself? Third, what are the conditions that prevent it from expressing itself, and what are the disorders? These form the theoretical foundation. Just as you cannot become a chef without entering the kitchen and cooking, you cannot become a Speech and Language Therapist without hands-on practice."

After the first session ended, the final session began, where prospective students' questions were answered.

Assoc. Prof. Dicle Yıldırım: "Visual communication design is a highly enjoyable field."

Assoc. Prof.  Dicle Yıldırım, a faculty member of the Visual Communication Design Department at Üsküdar University's Faculty of Communication, provided insights about the field. Yıldırım stated that "Visual communication design is a profession with a vast scope. Today, it is not limited to print media; designers create for numerous digital platforms. This field provides a powerful tool for shaping public perception. You may be the art director behind a massive advertising campaign, or you might work on smaller-scale projects. Since this field also includes animation, 3D modeling, and innovations driven by artificial intelligence, visual communication design is a very enjoyable profession."

Asst. Prof. Fatma Turan Shared Insights About the Psychology Program

Asst. Prof. Fatma Turan from Üsküdar University’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences answered students’ questions about the psychology program. Turan stated that "First, we need to understand ourselves and become aware of our own behaviors. Then, to establish healthy communication, we must understand the behavior of others. This is exactly where psychology helps us."

Assoc. Prof. Feride Kulalı Özdek: "Vocational schools in the healthcare sector always maintain their popularity."
