Mustafa Yaşar, who is 24 years old, came to Istanbul from Eskişehir for treatment in 2016 with a diagnosis of blood disease and for a long time fought with aplastic anemia, which he caught when he was 17 years old. After the necessary treatments, Yaşar survived the disease and was diagnosed with acute leukemia after a while. Yaşar, who received chemotherapy for leukemia treatment and then a bone marrow transplant from his brother even though he was not 100 percent compatible, stated that he is as healthy as possible now. Yaşar said that "I was hospitalized at the age of 17 and had my first beard shave in the hospital. I have never given up on my goals, nor do I regret it. I want to be a hope to tell all patients that something can be achieved when they want it or believe in it.".
"WE LOVED MUSTAFA'S DETERMINATION AND EXCITEMENT AS A TEAM"
Emsey Hospital Hematology Specialist Prof. Serdar Bedii Omay, who has been fighting side by side with Yaşar since the age of 17, said the following about his processes:
"Mustafa came here at the age of 17 as a young adolescent who was extremely handsome, innocent and sympathetic looking and wanted to be treated. Mustafa's illness aside, we loved his character, determination and excitement as a team. We diagnosed the disease we call aplastic anemia. The bone marrow was unable to make blood cells, and we had a severe case in front of us. We quickly started to use standard treatments in aplastic anemia from the immune therapy and chemotherapy group. At the same time, we started looking for a donor to donate marrow. The most suitable donor we could find was Mustafa's older brother, who was 60-70 percent compatible. His first bank also did not have a suitable transmitter. With the treatments we call chemo immunotherapy, we were able to bring Mustafa to a point. However, after a while, we were faced with acute leukemia with the appearance of a diseased leukemia clone that occurs from time to time in bone marrow diseases. This time, the picture we encountered was a very serious and life-threatening one. First, we tried to eliminate the leukemia cell mass with an intensive chemotherapy. We were successful in that, and even though it was not 100 percent compatible, we were able to do the marrow transplant from the donor. Although there are minor problems, Mustafa's high discernment and determination to keep himself healthy, combined with our efforts, make us happy with where we have come.".
