The project of Prof. Ibrahim Ozdemir, head of the Department of Philosophy at Uskudar University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, was accepted by the European Climate Foundation (ECF). The "Al – Mizan: A Covenant for the Earth" project, an international call for the environment and ecosystem, will be supported worth €40,000
Prof. Ibrahim Ozdemir has proposed a project to the European Environmental Foundation (ECF) called "Al – Mizan: A Covenant for the Earth" calling on the world to reach an international agreement to protect the environment. The project, which will contribute to nature and ecosystems all over the world, has been accepted by ECF. The project was found to be worth €40,000. The subject of the project is known as Al-Mizan: An Islamic Covenant for the Earth from Concept to Practice. Within the scope of the project, ways to work in harmony with the heartbeat of the natural world will be explored to protect nature.
According to Prof. Ozdemir, environmentalism, which is the subject of the project, is deeply embedded in the veins of Islam. According to the project, we must be respectful and thoughtful towards wildlife and other creatures as we are attentive in our behaviors and relationships with others. These features are praised and exemplified in many verses in the Qur'an. For example, the Surah of Al-Imran is commanded in verse 104 as follows;
“Let there be a people among you who call for the good, command the good, and forbid the evil, and these are they reach salvation.”
The word Al - Mizan is based on verses 1-9 of the Surah of Rahman, which Almighty God describes with the perfect balance of creation:
“(Allah) Most Gracious! It is He Who has taught the Qur´an. He has created man. He has taught him speech (and intelligence). The sun and the moon follow courses (exactly) computed. And the herbs(5175) and the trees - both (alike) bow in adoration. And the Firmament has He raised high, and He has set up the Balance (of Justice - Mizan),
So that ye may not transgress (due) balance. So establish weight with justice (Mizan) and fall not short in the balance.”
Prof. Ibrahim Ozdemir started with the project "Al – Mizan: A Covenant for the Earth" with a call for cooperation in the international arena to protect nature. Ozdemir aims to work in the field of ecosystem protection and development within the scope of the project.
The project is also aimed at contributing to international cooperation and the development of the environmental ecosystem.
